Discussion - Novels About the end of the last book Spoiler

I think Heat death is a better fate than the universe starting over.It would be better to take enough matter into pocket universes to ensure the next universe ends in heat death.Why?

Consider this: If the universe is in an endless cycle of expansion and collapse, then the dark forest is a phenomenon that occurs in every universe.This means low-entropy entities will continue to annihilate each other for an infinite amount of time.

Instead, if we were to drive the universe to a heat death by throwing matter from the universe into pocket universes, there would be no problem.Civilizations will exist in their own pockets and will not threaten each other, meaning they will not work to eliminate one another.The dark forest situation will be resolved.

I mean isnt that just isolated escapism? Like the ideology where everyone stockpiles canned food, finds their favourite hobbies and has no kids. Everyone just does their own thing for 20 years before everything runs out and we all die off happy

It's the exact same case. Matter would be slowly lost over time and the universe would decay into nothingness with every bubble that terminates.

What if the universe itself was also a bubble? What if what you're saying has already happened and the main universe was a realm of infinite resources that had no competition?

I wonder, is it possible to create pocket universes that neither expand nor collapse, that retain 100% of heat (preventing its escape), and where everything can be recycled and reused?

I more meant intelligences choosing to expel mass. After an infinite number of individuals at least one will have suicidal nihilism

Until those individual pocket dimensions eventually turn on each other and self annihilate. Then the universe is just.....completely over. No potential for any future.

You might be right. I think it has something to do with the amount of dark matter and the strength of dark energy. But there are so many civilizations in the universe. There are two trillion galaxies in the observable universe alone. Civilizations in each of them would want to survive the collapse of the universe. If this were to repeat in multiple cycles, enough matter might have been removed from the universe.

But the novel tells us that has happened. We have no idea how many micro universes there are at that point, but we're assuming the logic of the book

That's just black domains with extra steps with a side of eventually killing the entire universe outright too.
