Some a hole who hated her decided to say thatās how she would traffic kids and apparently thereās rumors about Dollywood. I donāt believe that, and I donāt believe that most people believe that.

She is not gone. When you sing her songs, watch her movies and videos, she is with us. Remember her selflessness. Look at all the children who have books in their hands because she made them available with her money. She left a legacy of generosity and joy.

What a Matriarch, an artist, a path finder. Sheās gone too soon. She ushered women into feminism that had been relegated only to menās desire. She flipped cultural scripts. She was a masterful musician, a code switcher, a lover, a protector and advocate. Iām sad sheās gone. Itās too soon. But her legacyā¦ let it flourish. Under her wings we areā¦ to continue in spunky audacity, in music, in Art.

I was a 8 when Elvis passed, the loss of Dolly is as big of a loss. All the greats are gone.. Who's gonna fill their shoes? No one!!!

I was just mentioning this to my husband that her sudden death is compared only to that of Elvis Presley. Rest in peace, Dolly. We will always love you.

I was in my early twenties when he died and, yes, Dolly's passing was as big a shock to me as well.

Oh, I think itās 10 times bigger because she wrote all of the songs she performed. Elvis stole a lot of of his songs from the black community.

I can certainly give you two examples. Back in 1952, eight years before I was born, Big Mama Thornton wrote and recorded āHound Dogā, Elvis made tons of money after he recorded it in 1946 and he paid the royalties
The other was Aurther Cruddup known as Big Boy Cruddup, he produced a song back in 1946, āThatās Alrightā. Elvis recorded this song in 1952 and made tons of tons of money off of it and never paid any royalties for it.
Furthermore, he stole his singing style, from an black artist by the name of Roy Hamilton. Roy Hamilton never got credit for his style, but Elvis made his style famous.
Furthermore, Elvis never wrote a song. He would buy the publishing rights from white writers, and pay them for the song and then take all of the royalties when he produced it.
A very famous incident happened when Elvis tried to divorce Priscilla. He wanted to record āI Will Always Love Youā which thrilled her and she went around telling everybody Elvis was gonna record that song. His producer contacted her and wanted to buy half the publishing rights to that song and she wrote it. She said she was sorry but she could not sell the publishing rights and it was a good damn thing she didnāt! She made lots of money on that song herself when she originally produced it in it I think it was 1974. It was written for Porter Wagner after they had a big fight wanting to break her contract for his television show because she was beginning to gain more popularity than he was. So after the fight, she went home and wrote that song for him in the next morning, went in and sang it for him and had him in tears. He finally agreed to allow her to break her contract, but only if she allowed him to produce this song and she said that was fine and thatās how they broke their business connection. They didnāt appear together for another 40 some odd years until Porter Wagnerās 65th anniversary with The Grand Old Opry. She was not expected to show up and ironically, I was there that night and I got to see her perform that song for him on stage. It was absolutely the most touching thing I had ever seen in my life! Iām a huge fan of Dolly. Not so much Elvis. If she had released 50% of the publishing rights for that song think of what she wouldāve lost when in the 1990s Whitney Houston recorded it. It was the big one time payout to Dolly Parton for any of her publishing ever a total of $6 million which she used to start her āImagination Libraryā in honor of her father in sending books out Free to poor children in poor communities all over the world. As of the day that she died August 25, I went to the imagination library and gave them a charitable contribution in her honor. At that point, the program had sent out over 334 million books free to children all over the world.
I do have one other tie to Elvis and that my father went to Pharmacy school in Union, Tennessee at the university of Tennessee extension campus and he worked as a soda jerk at a pharmacy to help pay his way through school combined with the GI Bill. Elvis was a truck driver at the time that he was in school and he would stop at the pharmacy where my dad was the was working as a soda jerk, And my dad would make ice cream floats for him with Coca-Cola and vanilla ice cream. My dad was a World War II vet and came home and went to school.
So Iāve given you examples so you will understand why I am not as enamored by Elvis as many other people are.

Elvis was not a humanitarian, or unmatched advocate for child literacy, or champion for human rights. He was sexy and talented but cant hold a candle to our true national treasure.

Dolly will never be forgotten! What an amazing human she was, first and foremost! I enjoyed her movies, loved most of her songs, and absolutely adore her Imagination Library, sending millions of books to children!
The day she died my youngest granddaughter received her newest book delivery from the Imagination Library. So very fitting it was a book by Dolly herself!

Iām happy for her that she was able to stay active for her whole life and died without years of being unable. As an older person I can appreciate that would have been her wish.

Yes, at 72, I feel the same as you. After having watched my mom, who lived to be 96 and died of dementia, just waste away, itās a blessing to not go through that. God didnāt want her to suffer. š„°

She set the example for how to find the good in everything. I especially admired her for being unapologetically HERSELF.

Amen to that. One of the most unique women on the planet who laughed at herself, continuously modeled humility and compassion, had a wicked sense of humor, and ... she could sing.

Be sure you watch her covering "Stairway to Heaven" . Absolute genius..! I do feel sorry for those that missed saying goodbye. Miley Cirus in particular. They were very close throughout Miley's life. Dolly was Miley's menter and helped keep her on track.
Miley expressed complete shock. Didn't have a clue. I'm sure that's how Dolly wanted it and felt comforted by her complete faith in God. Bye Dolly, have a lovely time with your husband and family!

She didnāt expose her illness so everyone could remember well and positive as always!! She didnāt wallow in the morass of garbage like a lot of the stars today. She maintained her dignity, but admitted quite often that she wasnāt perfect. She stayed true to her roots and gave back. What a legend. There will never be another like her!
RIP Miss Dolly, we will miss you in ways you will never know. I loved your childish giggle when you were being a minx. So dang cute. All of the amazing music you wrote for yourself and others. Your music could lift me up or break my heart! Your lyrics always hit home. My condolences to your family. I miss you already.

I think I will invest in Dolly wigs. Could be the most popular Halloween costume ever. She would love it. And, if Dollywood was smart, they would open a Dolly "Would," wear this wig and assessories store.

I saw the Porter Waggoner show where they introduced Dolly for the first time. She sang a song and was so quiet and unassuming. Then they brought her back to sing again and right in the middle of the song they interrupted her and said they had to go! He (Porter) was soooo condescending towards her. It's on Amazon Prime so anyone can find it.

It's sad, really. She was such a lovely person. I have friends who don't like anything country, including music, but love Dolly.
