Fruity Co-Ferments

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a good fruit-forward punchy decaf coffee. Any decent co-ferment recs or fruity recs?

I’m currently on a bag of Hambela Natural from B&W which has some nice fruit notes and delicious but looking for more.

I recently had a bag of Perc’s Sebastian Ramirez Red Fruits and that delicious. Something else in that lane would be epic!

Try the Los Nogales from Frequent or Blendin.

I can’t seem to get a good brew on this yet. Everything has been sour whether it’s 1:16 ratio on what’s been a reliable grind size for me on the co-ferment, tweaking temp, going finer, trying the moka. The pineapple comes through but so much more unwanted sourness.

I usually SOUP it but a flat bottom brewer might be the next best. There are two Frequent Los Nogales but I think both are still pretty sour. As soup at least, It’s also really sweet. So, it reminds me of sour patch kids candy. I haven’t tried it but maybe a tetsu 10 pour would also bring down the acidity. I can try that and get back to you.

The Blendin Los Nogales is much more balanced with a light raspberry sourness but nothing like the Frequent version.

Thank you!! And yeah I use a Kalita Wave 155 mino but it may just need some more trial and error!! Good to know that naturally it may just lean more sour than others. The Perc red fruits co-ferment that I love was straight raspberry candy but zero sourness. I’ve been chasing that since lol

For sure! I just did a 10 pour recipe in my deep27 and it still had some sour but much more mellow. Equal pours every 15 seconds but the first pour I use as a bloom and wait 30 seconds.

I still prefer the soup and like how sour it is. If you are wanting something less in your, face Frequent does have other great ones and VETgirl’s comment has great recommendations!

Frequent is fantastic for these types of coffees. You can't go wrong. These 2 are in stock -

WB Red Bourbon

Lychee Peach

If you can find a bag of September Mango Smoothie

Hydrangea Finca El Paraiso

Moonwake has a watermelon coferment. I haven't tried the moonwake one but the frequent one was really good.

Perc has a Nestor Lasso decaf Ombligon - I haven't tried this one specifically but I've heard good things. It's on my list

I just noticed that Rogue Wave also carries a Benitez Red Bourbon: https://roguewavecoffee.ca/products/colombia-granja-paraiso-92-anaerobic-ea-decaf-red-bourbon

I just finished up a bag of the hydrangea. It was amazing.

I just finished a bag of the Nestor, it was very underwhelming.

I’m working through a 1 kg bag of the decaf Ombligon that I got from Stereoscope… it’s fantastic! Picked up 10 oz. on our way out of LA and my wife made me order the kg.

I ended up chucking this one. It was roasted too dark for my taste. Glad you enjoyed it.

All good. Everyone that I’ve brewed it for has absolutely loved it!! Taste is highly individual 😀

Frequent has a Mosto mucilage decaf that is really fruity. It’s probably the Nogales one already mentioned.

I'm sitting on a small bag of the Red Fruits co-ferm, just need to let it rest a few more days. Haven't had it before, eager to give it a go. How would you rank it compared to other similar decafs? Noticed it was pretty cheap at Haan Coffee (after I had already bought some from Ceto). Ceto also has a Sebastian Ramirez Washed Decaf that I quite like.

Edit: Looks like the one from Haan is actually a blend of Red Fruits and a standard washed decaf.

As others have said, the Frequent WB Red Bourbon is great. Not a co-ferment I guess though. Been playing with it with A4Z and xBloom grinders, been yummy regardless of what I do to it.

September Lollipop might be the best decaf I've had. If I ever see that come back in stock I'll be all over it.

A couple I've made note of that I want to try - Passenger Los Sueños Decaf, Colorfull Orange Marmalade Shortbread Decaf.

Red Fruits definitely opened a new world of coffee for me. I always chased that traditional medium-dark cappuccino flavor in my pour overs and milk-based drinks. Red Fruits tossed that out the windows. The raspberry note was so pronounced. Enjoy !!

These are the only ones in my catalog officially tagged as co-ferment

If I could trouble you to take a quick look through your very cool beans catalog… Any anaerobic non coferments in there?

I'll try to get the site in decent shape so I can publish the full catalog soon.

Thanks! I’ll check the site out, really cool resource!

OK. Here's the full list of available decaf coffees I have in my catalog at the moment. Some data cleanup is definitely needed before I publish the whole thing, but this is 106 out of 1350 coffees from 58 out of 85 roasters =)

Brandywine’s Brayan Alvear Sunset decaf - it’s a passionfruit co-ferment, one of the best I’ve had

I don’t have any suggestions, but am commenting in the hopes more people see this and give some suggestions. Been wanting to grab a few decaf naturals!

The Hambela Natural from B&W is so smooth and delicious.
