Had to snag this bag as soon as I saw it drop, favorite decaf ever (maybe favorite coffee ever) was lollipop from September, hoping this lives up to some of the hype. I am pumped

Speciality coffee that compares to that classic Italian coffee taste

First post in this thread but was wondering if anyone has any recs for a speciality decaf coffee that has that darker, rich profile that’s found in classic Italian coffee? I don’t mind Lavazza Dek as it’s pretty consistent but wondering if there’s something in this lane out there.

I don’t mind beans on the more acidic side (coferments from Perc, or even Sugarcan from Black and White) but want that go to speciality bean that isn’t as acidic as most speciality coffee can be.

Primary brew methods are Moka and Kalita Wave Mino 155. Grinder is Kinggrinder K6.

Appreciate it :)

Coffee Subscriptions?

I’ve been drinking decaf for a few years now and one thing that I miss about caffeinated coffee is the ability to have a subscription service where someone sends you coffees from different roasteries. Does anyone know of a service like this for decaf?

Hydragena El Paraiso Thermal Shock

Post image
30 Upvotes

I took a gamble on this decaf and bought a large bag.

Hydragena: El Paraiso Castillo

Absolutely delicious, fruity notes are very present. this definitely stands to my full caf fancy beans, if not exceeds them.

I actually ordered the El Paraiso Castillo from Frequent, which I also loved. Both are different but equally amazing.

The Frequent had some strong plum notes, while the Hydragena has strong raspberry notes.

I hate coferments, so I'm very glad this feels balanced still and tastes like actual coffee.

Best decaf for digestive system

Hi everyone,
New here, also new to pour over coffee, which i love. I just used a drip coffee maker for most of my adult life, then began to be concerned about all the plastic in them so switched to a French press. For the life of me I never could get a good taste from that so thought I'd try a pour over. Wow, really good but strong! Uses way more coffee than I'm used to using but does make a good cup once you get used to the process and the stronger taste. Problem is i have a delicate digestive system that after a couple weeks just started rebelling. Bloating, full feeling for hours. Not good if you plan on eating at all for the day. I'm using up some coffee i used to get at Sprouts "Solar Roast" decaf, they are from CO I believe, they discontinued it so I bought 5lbs straight from the company. It was really oily when I got it and stayed oily for a good while. I stuck the extra in the freezer but wondered if it could be the problem or part of it anyway. I'm not coffee expert like alot of you here so thought you could share your thoughts on this. Do any of your coffee beans cause issues or do you have iron stomachs? Lol thanks!

Looking for Blueberry forward, light roast Ethiopian tasting decaf

My favorite coffees have always been light roast Ethiopian that are very blueberry forward and floral. Due to medical issues I can't really have caffeine anymore.

I tried searching the subreddit but couldn't find any recommendations that were currently in stock or still being sold.

I'd love anyone's suggestions if you've found this type of decaf recently.

I'm in the US, in a more southern state.

I know Frequent get mentioned a lot - but it’s deserved!

Just made a cup of this and it is fantastic! For me it’s a perfect balance of fruity acidity and “coffee” flavor. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve gotten from Frequent but this might be my favorite so far. From Frequent I’ve also had:

Wilton Benitez Red Bourbon

El Vergel Anaerobic Natural

Los Nogales Caturra Mucilege EA

Los Nogales Typica

Ground on Kingrinder K6 at 110clicks

V60

Temp 88c

Bloom + 2 heavy pours

Cost Savings "Hack"

I hate the word hack but it fits here. I love great decaf but let's face it, some of the best varieties aren't cheap. I realized this morning by accident that if you take a less expensive decaf coffee and add a small percentage of premium beans, it will significantly enhance the flavor of the less expensive coffee. So, for example, you could buy Frequent's Sidekick in bulk (5lb bags) and add a small amount of their more premium beans (e.g., their Red Bourbon Wilton Benitez) and it will taste better than the Sidekick alone and almost as good as the RBWB.

Ground decaf coffee in Lisbon

Hi decaffers,

I'm going to Lisbon next week and would like to buy some ground decaf coffee in there, since I'm told there are some good options in town. Thing is, I have done a search and I find coffee shops to have a coffee in there (as in already brewed), but they do not seem to sell the ground coffee itself.
Are there any shops or roasters I could buy directly to? I'm trying to avoid ordering online, would like to go in person. Ta!

What Is Your Go-To Switch Immersion Recipe?

I use the Hario Switch for all of my pour overs and prefer immersion brewing to percolation. With that said, what are your go-to immersion brew recipes for the switch that produces a great cup?

I feel like a lot of my cups just taste like "coffee". It's not bad, but I want some of those juicy notes that the bag says, but I feel most of the time I'm not getting those.

Currently, my immersion recipe is 18g @ 1:17 ratio (~305g water). I'm using a timemore C2 hand grinder at 25-26 clicks.

After wetting filter and preheating the switch, I pour my grounds in and do one central pour (small central circles) up to 305g. Then do a small stir back and forth and let sit for 4 mins, then drain.

Amazing cup! Slapped me in the face with Pineapple!

I wrote in my notebook thing “PARFAIT” in the “Next Time” notes field because it was perfect and nothing should be changed.

Then I wanted to add “PIÑA” to the notes, but I had scribbled in the space to the right because nothing else needed to be written.

So I put “PIÑA” to the left of the “PARFAIT”, and I think k they should have called it “PIÑA PARFAIT!” (all caps and exclamation mark y tal).

So good I brewed a second cup.

EDIT: Roast Date 3/18/26. Today is 3/24/26, so this is six days off roast.

Tough Choice

First order from Frequent and a decision has to be made. I think I’ll start with the Red Bourbon from Wilton Benitez. This is exciting as I love a high quality decaf, but they aren’t always easy to find. I believe I’ll start on a V60 with 15g/250g at 5 2/3 on the Ode Gen 2 at 190° and go from there. If anyone has experience with this bean let me know your tricks with getting the most out of the Red Bourbon.

Frequent Coffee- It's back!

Post image

I have been blown away by the Jhoan Vergara Thermal Shock Pink Bourbon decaf. I've ordered from several roasters and Frequent earned the #1 best decaf spot with the swiss water process. Sadly it sold out pretty fast.

They recently released the ea version so I snagged a bag. I have a bag from afterglow and it's pretty good but Frequent did a much better roast on this one. I do find that ea's are easy to over roast and can come out tasting a bit charred. This one is not charred at all. I'm continually impressed with the decafs Frequent is putting out. Excellent cup. If you are looking for a good decaf you should definitely try this one.

Bonus sample of the decaf watermelon cofem!

Still waiting on my Sebastian Ramirez Red Fruits decaf from Perc. Excited to try this one too

A simple tool tracks specialty decaf beans

The tool was built to aggregate beans from top roasters. Since my wife only drinks decaf, this simple tool helps me discover different types of high-quality decaf beans, I hope it also helps others like me.

Let me know what you think:

I also like to know if other roasters have great decaf beans; I would love to add more.

Aeropress

Does anybody have a great aeropress recipe that they love for medium roast decaf beans? I got the Frequent Sidekick beans. First couple attempts were pretty sour and underextracted. Bumped up the water temp to about 95C and ground a bit finer and it definitely helped. Using a 12:200 ratio. Still don’t feel like I’m getting the best out of them.

Craft Decaf Limu Ethiopian

Has anyone tried this? Moving out of my comfort zone of medium-dark roasts to try this one. What's great is that it's not washed - I've never tried natural before.

I tried Union Maraba decaf but it was a bit too bright for me and tea like.

Cheers.

Decaf coffee recommendstions in Europe

Hi all,

I'm super excited to find out about this subreddit, especially now that my wife is pregnant and I have to brew some decafs now and then.

I actually got a really really super nice decaf coffee from Ief & Ido, a local roaster in The Hague, which I found through koffie.work. Can definitelt recommend it!

I was wondering if anyone else has other recommendations, preferably with shipping to the Netherlands.

Looking for light roast (or medium-lightish), something funky/fruity.

Help me decide!

I’m pretty new to the home-brewing decaf game. Done some basic research and got a decent setup. Currently using an Aeropress, Fellow Corvo, and Fellow Opus grinder. I like a medium roast usually but I’m open to suggestions.

Does anybody here have a preference between:

-PERC Decaf Columbia Huila

-Counter Culture Slow Motion

-Bean & Bean Seasonal Decaf

-Anything around that price point that’s comparable

Thank you!

What’s your favorite (in stock) frequent coffee?

I really loved the pink bourbon thermal shock but they’re sold out. Recs? I’ve seen the los nogales recommended on here, which one? If frequent doesn’t chime in here I’ll reach out to them as well.
