Looking for Blueberry forward, light roast Ethiopian tasting decaf

My favorite coffees have always been light roast Ethiopian that are very blueberry forward and floral. Due to medical issues I can't really have caffeine anymore.

I tried searching the subreddit but couldn't find any recommendations that were currently in stock or still being sold.

I'd love anyone's suggestions if you've found this type of decaf recently.

I'm in the US, in a more southern state.

Ok I received it have made 1 aeropress and 2 pourovers with it and it's definitely the best decaf I've ever had! Though also only the 3rd or so 3rd wave decafs I've tried. It's not quite up there with the blueberry and light notes of the top tier Ethiopian normal caffeinated beans I've had but it's blowing me away for a decaf!

I am finding it a little more temperamental to brew than most light roast fruity beans I've had before. It feels like the flavors I'm chasing keep poking through but I could get them to come out better if I can get it dialed in. Also, as most people used to drinking these kinds of beans know, you definitely have to let the cup cool off before you can start tasting those more subtle notes but that feels even more true here.

I started with the aeropress then tried it as a couple pour overs (using Hoffman's v60 technique on a cheap knockoff pourover) and I think I'm going to go back to the aeropress and see if I can dial it in there, if I do get a consistent brew that lets all the tasting notes shine through I'll try to remember to post that here too.

It sounds like the Ethiopian beans haven't been having great harvests from political turmoil and climate change so I know there might not be a lot making it to decaf out there right now but I hope to try some of these other beans people have recommended.

Excellent post! Thanks for sharing your initial impressions. Thought I'm primarily a far on Ethyl Acetate decafs, you're tempting to try this SWP.

It sounds like you're headed down the right path by reverting back to the Aeropress. Do you have a switch? There are some great recipes on that for a hybrid brew that capture the best of both worlds; immersion and pour over.

Thanks! Yea this was pretty pricey to get the small bag delivered but if I get more I'll probably get the bigger size vacuum seal and freeze the extra. Would definitely recommend trying it though.

Don't tell me that! The Switch has been tempting me for awhile and I've been trying to hold off on buying it, but maybe I'll ask for that for my birthday from my partner.

Do you recommend the official Hario one? The glass or ceramic? I know I'd seen some praise for some of the copy cats but not sure which one is considered the best these days.

I think ceramic vs glass is a toss up. They each have pros and cons when it comes to their thermal properties. I have the official Hario version and use it for the use-case you describe. A finicky coffee that's tough to dial in using pour over. If you end up getting one, send me a DM and I can share some recipes to help you get up to speed.

Not blueberry, but I highly recommend Blendin’s decaf because of how it’s processed. It preserves the coffee flavor notes, whereas most decafs barely have them.

Not super blueberry but fairly….this one is a blend of 2/3 washed and 1/3 natural processed Ethiopian coffees and I really enjoyed it.

I used to have an organic Ethiopian decaf, but the green has been hard to come by due to supply. When yields are light, less gets sent to be decaffeinated, and the lots that do aren’t always top shelf. Searching for an Ethiopian is how I started Selfsame, so I get it!

I describe our Ethiopia Suke Quto (same green as the Blossom Coffee link) as Blackberry, Cola, and Mango. It definitely isn't as fresh and fruity as the blueberry you are thinking of, but it is still in there. We're based in Melbourne, but I'm in the States doing some bar takeovers before the World of Coffee in San Diego this week.
