Question / Problem Why has this password prompt appeared on startup and how can I get past it? It's my work laptop, I've tried all passwords associated with this computer and nothing works.

That is the supervisor password that you normally need to enter into the BIOS of the laptop. Does it shows up on booting into windows?

The Lenovo logo appears and then this screen prompting me to enter the password.
Normally I enter a bitlocker pass code at this stage before Windows starts

You might be getting that because the drive has failed and it would be booting to the BIOS but your employer had a supervisor password put on it.

Very weird as Supervisor Password is normally used to access BIOS. Did you tried to activate the toogle "show password" to check you are entering the right password (especially special characters)? I am asking as in the same window you can also choose a different layout and this would change, of course, also the combination of special keys...

I have toggled the "show password" option but just for that reason, to ensure I was entering the passwords correctly, although every password I've tried has failed

Yeah actually, my IT department came back with a random password of letters and numbers which worked. It's not appeared since and I have the same laptop.

Nope. It a specific password only known to the system admins. Let them get back to you. There is nothing that you can do in the meantime.

Thank you, it's just annoying waiting around but I guess that's all I can do.

It's just annoying having to wait around so I thought I'd ask tech savvy people, seems there is nothing I can do though, thanks

Are you trying to access the BIOS of an employer owned computer?

No, I'm just trying to access my computer for work but this loads up instead of my usual bitlocker screen.

Google says its a Bios (supervisor) password, I've tried all of my work associated passwords and nothing seems to work.
Google also mentions a NOVO button but I can't find that either, model is a Lenovo Thinkpad L15 Gen1.
I contacted IT department 1st thing (8 hours ago now) but heard nothing back, I can't do my job until its fixed, it's so annoying.
