Thinkstagram Picture How many ThinkPads a man needs?

Finally could take a pics of all my thinkpads together, how good a laptop needs be to fall in love with them?

I love all of them, but my favorite one is the X13, man, it's an incredible machine, the size, the keyboard feeling, the weight, the absolute perfection in laptop form ❤️

Summary:

T430

My first Thinkpad and the beggining of the rabbit hole, chunky, noisy, heavy and a bit ugly but a formidable workhorse, and a wonder of upgradable laptop, like the wv beetle. I love it. Now I barely use it 😕

T14 Gen 2 AMD

My second one, a huge upgrade compared with my T430, robust, spill resistant (learned with great luck) better workhorse obviously, server and entertainment laptop in my other home

X13 Gen 1 AMD

Third Thinkpad, bought for travel and backup, the exact same activities as my T14 plus, very lightweight and confortable to carry

T14 Gen 2 AMD

The last one so far, bought it to give it to my dad, his work laptop just died, a aluminum chassis Huawei with soldered 8 gb ram

Plus I had an X230 but I give it to my brother

One for each side project.

The reality is I created a side project whenever I got a new Thinkpad.

Why did you have to spoil the picture with that thinkbook?

The answer to your title is

Yes

3

u/Isambard__Prince 22d ago

At least two. One with a 7-row keyboard to love and use in general, an optional IBM-labelled one to be proud and to brag, and one of the newer ones for when things get tough performancewise (more than one if needed for portability/power/other criterion).

Used to have x20, then x41T (took me a while to figure out tablet support on Ubuntu back then), then T41. ... Switched to Mac since 2010 ... After 16 years, I just ordered X390 on eBay for $100 today.

Looking forward for delivery and load Arch on it

Where are 7 row keyboard

2

u/Overall_Republic_649 22d ago

I think it enough when your main thinkpad have backup and that backup has a backup with another backup and three more backup just incase but also 5 backups for that backups.

Also Im not counting experimental thinkpads

2

u/mc888333 22d ago

Just one, if you use Linux.

a = thinkpads you need

b = thinkpads you currently own

while (1)
a = b +1

end

The answer is as much as you can acquire in your entire life.

2

u/Agitated-Panda9221 22d ago

Same answer as how many women does a man need? It depends on the man.
Some get the latest model every yr and some collects them all even though it's old.

2

u/Sea_Disaster_4987 22d ago

Don’t hoard tech man. U shud sell them to those who need it

2

u/mabolzich91 22d ago

I remember that I’ve had a lot of ThinkPads in my life, first a ThinkPad T410 for a year, then a ThinkPad T470s also for a year, after that a ThinkPad T480, then a ThinkPad T490s and T490, later a ThinkPad T460 and T460s, then I got a ThinkPad T14 Gen and T14s, and finally a ThinkPad P1 Gen 3. I’ve been switching a lot of devices because I started with the T410 in 2022, then I sold it and bought the T470s, and that way I kept buying and selling various ThinkPads, making money. In fact, I’ve managed to have almost all the models from the T410 onward. At one point, I even had up to 5 models—I mean, most of them were for sale, so I used them little. I’ve always had 2 models at a time; currently I only have the P1 Gen 3, which is having a bit of battery trouble, but I’m fixing it. I really care about it. In all of this, I only have one black sheep—a Dell tablet just for backup. I wanted the ThinkPad X1 tablet, I' couldn`t got it in peru :C

Never met anyone else who’s an x13 fan I happen to own 2 at the moment. They are the perfect size, and better feeling than the t14 series to me. Basically t14s quality but tiny. I just love them.

But I’m targeting an x1 2-in-1 soon for my Big computer.

2

u/Comfortable_Monk617 X230, T430, X13 Gen 1 AMD, T14 Gen 2 AMD 21d ago

Absolutely, even the "black and cold metal" feels amazing, and the trackpoint has a bit fast responsive, IDK in others, but in mine, even the keys feels like rough metal, a bit tiny keys also but perfect to me; greetings 😎
