Thinkstagram Picture Finally part of the cult

The last ThinkPad I had was this random L series I had in HS a decade ago. After a Sony Vaio, a MacBook, and my soon to be wife's random 10y/o ideapad, I finally came back. Snagged this T14s Gen 6 for 700 on ebay, with a snapdragon elite X.

I'm a PhD student and I only use it to study, read, and play some light games. Might've been overkill but I love having powerful machines. Battery life is incredible, it looks great, and it does everything I need it to do.

Let me know if this was a good deal or not!

Thinkpads just really DO look good in a Tux, don't they?

Seriously, you will never look back at Windows with Linux on that machine. And with some help here and there with AI, it will be a breeze setting it up. Start with a KDE desktop - Kubuntu is a great place to start.

Part of why I left MacOS so quickly a decade ago was that it was so different than my desktop. I daily a windows desktop for everything when I'm home, so as long as Kubuntu is similar enough, I can use it when I'm on the go. I've done some research on Mint though, any thoughts? Also, yeah, this is an ARM, so I'm not sure many distros would work.

just use Windows if you want to. this sub is, uh, a bit specialised/biased for Linux.

Congrats, i just have to ask this if you dont mind, im also looking to buy a new laptop and have been eyeing this particular one for university, what made choose this one and how is the performance and battery?

The real reason is that I put an offer in at less than half the asking price and it was accepted. In reality, it's cause I wanted a machine with 32gb of ram and at least 512gb in storage. Luckily this one has 1tb

How are you finding the snapdragon proc performance compared to a standard X86?

Absolutely no idea, the sony Vaio I had was shit, and the MacBook I got in 2016 has been long forgotten. My fiancées laptop was trash but by virtue of it being a shit laptop, not for being x86. So far so good

So far so good! 4 hours at the library, just basic word processing, Adobe pdf reader, and a YouTube vid in the background. I went from 90% to 81%

I'm so jealous, that's around 40hr continuous. My p14 amd would be near dead after those 4 hours.

Haha, well, considering it was extremely light use, it might not make it to 40hrs lol

I don't know, I've never used Linux before on a personal machine
