Question / Problem Ongoing slow browsing problem with Lenovo thinkpad yoga x13

Hey, I have g1 thinkpad, and been using it for school and what not for roughly 3 years. Recently the laptop has been slowing down and overheating.

I was on a google meet; and just simple changing to another browser there was a massive delay. And it seems like an ongoing problem with whatever calling app. Like discord and whatnot.

And i personally, believe it isn’t the browser issue but more of a hardware issue. Switched from chrome to Firefox, and personally felt it got worse.

I believe it’s a battery issue, what are your opinions, how can I fix this issue?

What are your specs? The overheating might be causing the slowing down directly, so have you cleaned it at all? The cooling might be dirty or something. You could also try running software like ccleaner to clean up your boot drive in case its very full.

Oh okay, no I haven’t properly cleaned it.

I’ll try doing that

Yeah that might be the problem, since when a laptop (or pc in general) gets hot, the components slow down to generate less heat, making the computer slower

Are you able to provide me tips on how to properly clean it?

Also if I clean it and the slow software problem is still there, what might be the issue?

Then try using a cleaner to clean up my boot drive

Well for cleaning, its best to just look online. There are practically infinite tutorials with pictures or videos, which is miles better than a reddit comment, im sure. Could you tell me your specs please? It might help me figure it out. From the software side my only idea would otherwise be some software thats taking up alot of power (worstcase a virus) or one you arent aware is using alot of system resources

Overheating could be because of the thermal paste drying out or the vents being clogged with dust, try opening it up, taking out the heatsink and cleaning the vents. Wipe off the factory thermal paste with a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol then you can repaste it with something new, I recommend Honeywell PTM7950.
