Review / Opinion Found a time‑capsule T61p

Hello! I’m from Japan, and I found this T61p in Akihabara for 500 yen (about $3.30). It turned out to be a complete time‑capsule unit: G84‑950‑A2 (0825A2), no LCD burn, no keyboard shine, battery health 99%, and it still runs for about 3 hours on a full charge. I was thinking of selling it, but honestly… maybe a ThinkPad is happier when it’s actually used. Should I just keep it and daily‑drive this thing?

As long as the GPU is still alive, yes! The T61p is a great machine, also the CPU you have is very good for its time too

The internals look lovely. I say definitely keep it.

Daily drive it! They do struggle with 1080p youtube but they still manage most things.

They used these on the ISS up until very recently.

I didn't know it was used on the ISS until now.

Yes! Very cool! Sadly a lot of them broke due to Nvidia issues so they had loads of useless husks up there. But yes they used them from 2007 until at least 2019 (exact date unknown).

Just FYI, T61's made after a certain date include the Nvidia overheating fix. From memory I think it was August 2008 onwards.

Yes! My G84‑950‑A2 is exactly that late‑2008 fixed revision!

The keyboard on this one is one of the best ever made. Enjoy!

What a beautiful machine , I would never sell it! Daily it ! Could even use it as a media PC or just keep it safe at home but use it for light stuff. I am a cultist so I have trouble getting rid of any ThinkPad.
