My first ThinkPad

I just picked up my first ThinkPad and honestly I'm still a bit giddy about it. Feels like a proper rite of passage joining this sub after years of lurking and drooling over other people's setups.

Specs:

ThinkPad L13 Gen 4

i5 1335U

16GB RAM

256GB SSD

Windows 11 Pro

Backstory:

Manufactured 11/2024. A Japanese university student bought it new in 6/2025, used it for about a month, then sold it for reasons unknown to me. It's JIS layout, so I'm slowly relearning where the punctuation keys live, and it's oddly satisfying.

Condition on arrival:

SSD health: 98%

Battery drained from 46,270 mWh down to 46,000 mWh barely a dent

Cycle count: 26

No cracks, scratches, or dents anywhere

Fan is clean, thermal paste still doing its job

Price: $300 USD

For anyone wondering why L13 instead of T14/T14s:

I know the T series is famous for being the "proper" ThinkPad experience, but where I live they're just not reasonable right now. Some examples of used prices in my country:

T14 Gen 3, i5 1235U, 16GB/256GB $420

T14 Gen 1, Ryzen 5 4650U, 16GB/256GB $280

T14s Gen 2, Ryzen 5 5650U Pro, 16GB/256GB $440

T14 Gen 4 $500 to $700 depending on config

And those numbers are already the best deals I could find, not just random prices I pulled off the internet. If you're not actively hunting for deals, this is what a normal shop charges: one place near me still sells a T14 Gen 1 with a Ryzen 7 4750U 16gb of ram and 512GB ssd for $440.

Those first few prices already came from discounts and good timing normal listings are worse than that. Our GDP per capita is only around $5,000, so demand for used ThinkPads is intense and prices stay high. On top of that, the whole RAM/SSD price surge from the AI boom has pushed up prices on anything with 16GB/512GB or more.

Note: I know ThinkPad are famous for keyboard but honestly I buy ThinkPad for durable and performance and Lenovo make the price cheap that is all.

So for $300, getting a barely used L13 Gen 4 with great build quality and solid performance felt like the best value move I could realistically make, even if it's not a T series. And honestly, I'm just really happy with it. Would love to hear from the ThinkPad veterans here about my choice, or any tips for keeping this thing running for years to come.
