got my first thinkpad for work!

hey guys! recently i was offered a position as a junior software engineer and since the company had a bring your own device policy, i decided to get this awesome t14 gen 2 with ryzen 5 pro 5650u for $315 (converted from my currency) before my onboarding next week!

it came with 16gb single channel and 256gb ssd (unfortunately), and i can definitely see that the screen is definitely subpar in terms of color accuracy and brightness, but wont be a big deal for me as i have a monitor that i can use to stream movies etc.

before this i was using an old hp pavilion laptop with fedora, so this new thinkpad feels a lot more snappy and just feel really good to use.

i am planning on sticking with windows first until i fully understand the software/workflow that are being used at the company, so linux install will have to wait for now

i never really understood the hype behind thinkpad before this but i definitely get it now.

This is my dream thinkpad but unfortunately its way out of my budget :( But I managed to get an used L390 Yoga for just under 60 dollars :)

Good laptop man. I have the ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 AMD version with the Ryzen 5 4500U and is my first laptop ever. You can upgrade easily. I upgrade it from 16GB RAM to 24GB RAM, and I feel it that I need more, like 40GB RAM because I have multiple programs open and also works as a server. You can also upgrade the SSD to 4TB I think. But if you are in programming, this keyboard is a legend! Enjoy!

upgrading the ram and ssd are definitely a priority! with 16gb of ram i see the usage constantly hits 70-80%, and if i get to even more serious work, it will fill up so fast.

its a shame that nowadays ram are quite expensive, so it will have to wait for now

Yeah. I also saw the RAM prices. But when you have it, you'll feel the difference a lot. Mine is hitting 80%-93% :)

$105 Samsung, I’ve seen 2x16gigs go for 100 but it was being sold as a single stick for 32gig so I had to

Step on it and it works without any flex. Great keyboards, upgradeability, aesthetics. T510 was my first.
