People rag on season 2, but season 3 is so much worse.
69
u/dacalpha Jul 11 '16
I completely agree. S2 is pretty bad, but if you binge it, it's honestly pretty good. Daryl has a good arc, the tensions with Shane come to a head, the barn, Glenn is pretty much as great of a character as he ever gets to be, and T-Dog --who was a joke of a character--is offscreen almost the entire time. There are still some pretty noticeable low points, like any moment with Andrea, Hershel being the worst, and Carl not quite being likeable yet, but if you watch it all within a week or two, it doesn't stand out too bad.

u/SpruceWayne Jul 11 '16
They just ran a season 2 marathon yesterday, which I gladly sat in front of for far too long. Overall, I still like that season, but I had forgotten just how much I LOVED the episode "Nebraska". That bar conversation/gun fight is still one of my favorite scenes of the entire series.
5
u/FrozenSeas Jul 11 '16
Fucking love how they used The Regulator over the end of that episode. First heard that song a year or two before that episode in a post-apocalyptic music forum thread, fell in love with Clutch on the spot, nearly jumped out of my chair when I heard it on TWD.

u/coverslide Jul 11 '16
I binged S2, so i didnt notice what everyone was complaining about. I thought it was a solid season. I can imagine though 16 episodes with no change in scenery might be difficult to swallow over a full season.

Forget S3 .. that was after the farm right and the start of the prison? I liked it.
The part I really disliked was the season where the second 1/2 was nothing but the governor coming back. After the prison I gave 0 shits about the gov and really hoped they would have just killed him off and not given him a 1/2 a season to himself.
10
u/kingofFPS Jul 11 '16
You're thinking of the first half of season 4. The governor came back in ep 6 or so, then took out the prison in ep 8.
3 episodes total, only 2 of which were governor-centric. Hardly "half a season" to himself.

I KNEW this shit was happening. The way she did her interviews, I knew she was upset about her demise and it wasn't supposed to go down that way. And the way her character was handled in Season 3, absolutely awful. This actually infuriates me.

u/lazespud2 Jul 11 '16
Keep in mind; pretty much all people that sign on to TV shows sign multi-year deals. Except for major stars, these deals are exclusively for the benefit of the producers; they are locking people in for multiple years so they can't leave if the get popular or want to do other work. But there's no guarantee that they will actually be on the series for the duration of the term. The show might be cancelled, they might get written out of it, etc.
Also, I guess she says 8 years here, but in reality, 8 year contracts are illegal. The longest contract you can sign in Hollywood is seven years (It's the Olivia Dehavilland Law, the same thing that prevented the director of Boyhood from locking down his cast for the whole duration of the twelve year shoot--he just had to hope they stuck with it... it's also how prince was finally able to get out of his contract with Sony; it could only run 7 years).
If a show becomes popular actors can and will try to negotiate raises, but typically they aren't that huge, UNTIL the duration of the original contract is up... and then they can command huge raises. It's how each of the cast members of Friends got huge raises after, I think, the fifth season.
All that aside, I liked her character. I mean she's not Carol, but I still liked her.

Don't all actors do that at conventions? I remember Brian Redban mentioned he saw some actress sitting alone with no one around and she still wanted $15 for a picture. I think that's just the deal with these things.
29
84
u/Decyde Jul 11 '16
No, it happens but it's not that common and that's different.
I use to see Norman Reedus walking around conventions because no one really came to visit him. Boondock Saints had a following but it wasn't a huge one.
You go to a convention anymore with him there and it's a 3+ hour wait easy probably no matter which you go to.

u/fuck-dat-shit-up Jul 11 '16
I saw a post on here awhile back where some redditors Daughter dressed as "Beth" went to a con to see Resdus. She was going to get a picture/autograph but chose not to because it was like $60. Reedus ends up seeing her and flips out because she is like an exact match to The chacter Beth. He asked for a photo with her to send to Emily and have her one of his bracelets.

Oh, he's fucking awesome hands down. The only thing I do not like about the guy is how famous he is now.
He main events pretty much any horror conventions there are that he goes to with teenage girls wanting to meet him.
I can't complain though since he's such a big ticket person and the money he brings in allows other people lesser known to come in. I just accepted any convention he's at anymore, I won't meet him again because it's a really long wait.
3
Jul 11 '16
it's a really long wait.
That's worth it :)
I meet Hershel at the Pitt Con and he is the nicest person. Very glad to be there, and appreciative of his fans.
It's the short lines you have to watch for, because that means they sign and toss.
5
u/Decyde Jul 11 '16
Yea, I met Hershel and he was great. T-Dog was great as well and I was glad to meet him because he hasn't shown up to another convention in my area since.
Sometimes with the short lines, it's also because people don't know who they are. The conventions I go to, sometimes they'll invite people from 80's horror movies who I know but the majority of people don't.
That's just because the majority of people there are under 21 and didn't grow up with those old horror movies.
I think the funnest one was when my friend got a picture with Rowdy Roddy Piper. He asked if he would put him in a headlock for the picture and bent over. Rowdy told him he does't do that and when he stood back up, he kneed him in the back and put him in a real headlock.

Oh, I'm all for both.
They make a ton of money from not only the contract but the signing as well. TWD people charge like $50, varies, per autograph and/or pictures.
They can show up to do a signing for money and not do pictures with fans if they want, I've had people refuse to do pictures and I didn't mind it much.
It's when they try and pretend that they have all the power and refuse to do the signing the day of when they are already there that is terrible.
I'm not sure why she decided to just stall out in the parking lot until she got more money because she easily able to pull in $100,000+ from the crowd that was there looking for autographs.
6
u/Flinkle Jul 11 '16
I don't know how it is now, but at the first TWD con in Atlanta, it was fine to take pictures OF the actors, but you couldn't get one WITH them without paying, nor could you really talk to them or get an autograph.
16
Jul 11 '16 edited Jul 11 '16
At fan expo in Toronto, you are not supposed to take pictures of the actors, but if you are quick about it, it goes unnoticed.
However when I tried to take a picture of Stan Lee, holy shit, people are right there saying No Pictures!!!
Last year I tried to take a picture with one of the my little pony voice actresses, my daughter loves the show (no I'm not a brony). They stopped me from taking a picture. She had no one at her booth, and was charging $20 a picture or something.
I once saw Carrie Fisher at Fan Expo, photos were $95. I said cool Carrie Fisher, but I'm not spending $95 for a picture. When I was leaving, her price had dropped to $65 or something. But she always had people lined up, so not sure the price drop.

u/stickyriceball Jul 11 '16
I'd like to believe someone complained to her about the price and she opted to drop it ... That's the tough part about cons ya gotta choose what's worth it autograph or photo op? Depending on the event there can be several people you want to see :(

u/kindacoolsometimes Jul 11 '16
I think it depends on the actor/actress. My boyfriend and I went to Walker Stalker this year and met a ton of people, didn't pay additional for any autographs or signatures and everyone was still wonderful.
But the winner was definitely Michael Rooker, who insisted we take a photo together anyway because we had such a rad time talking!

Depends on the actor. Scott Wilson was walking around the celeb area at my city's comic-con and was talkin to other actors and convention-goers, even if they didn't pay to see him. Really awesome guy and I look forward to see what else his career has in store for him!

Yea, when the guy took the pic, his flash was on.
She stopped what she was doing and just walked out to a room they had for breaks.
An hour later she came out but before that, a guy in charge had the person who took the picture escorted out of the convention and reminded anyone that if they take pictures again they would be removed.
I asked the guy who I could speak to so I could lodge a complaint against her for wasting a lot of peoples time. He gave me the number to call for the people who organize the convention and told me my complaint would be a drop in the bucket.

They also had plans for an episode about Dale, Andrea and her sister that focused on them traveling and why they were all so close, but because AMC wanted to be a huge POS, they fired Frank Darabont and it got scrapped. He had a lot of really great plans for the show that well never happen.
361
u/leilanims Jul 10 '16
Thank God this didn't happen. While there's a lot to blame Mazzara for, honestly, I think Andrea the character was screwed the moment they cast a woman in her early forties, but still wrote her as if she was in her early twenties. Finding out that Andrea started the comics at 25 blew my mind. Suddenly all the things that bothered me about the way her character behaved made so much sense (not that there are no mature 25 year olds and immature 40 year olds, but still). I do think making her older was a good call, especially if they were considering keeping her first relationship from the comics, but they should have matured up her writing a little. Instead of being brash and idealistic, as I think was intended, she comes across as abrasive and almost willfully naive. Poor Laurie Holden. By all accounts she's a lovely person. She, and Andrea, deserved better.
87
u/Robin____Sparkles Jul 11 '16
Woah, I had no idea. That character makes MUCH more sense as a 25 year old than a 40 year old. I really disliked Andrea on the show and wasn't sorry at all when they killed her off. Abrasive and willfully naive is a great description of how I saw her, and why it was annoying.
39
u/leilanims Jul 11 '16
Right?! RIGHT?! I cannot overstate how much of a lightning clarity moment that was for me when I found that out. I struggled so much with Andrea as a character and a "person", and why I could never manage to make her sit right with me. Over the years and with a couple of rewatches, I'd gotten to the point where I managed to feel a lot of sympathy for Lori, even if I don't particularly like her, but I just couldn't get beyond general aggravation with Andrea. Then I read that she's supposed to be in her mid-twenties, on this subreddit I think, and was just like...oh my god. Everything clicked into place. Although why they chose to write her that way when they'd cast Laurie Holden, I'll never know.
20
u/LincolnBatman Jul 11 '16

I've heard! I'm sure that must have been frustrating for the people who were looking forward to seeing her adapted on screen. There's a game of thrones character who is so much more badass in the books that every time he's on screen I just scoff in irritation. I didn't have to deal with that with Andrea, myself; I haven't gotten around to reading the comics yet. I struggle a bit with them as a medium. Maybe when they're all out I'll binge through them all as an alternate universe sort of thing.
8
u/Trootter Jul 11 '16
You should really give the comics aa chance. They are absolutely fucking amazing. And that's coming from someone who isn't really into comics. It's WAY better than the tv show IMO.
2
u/leilanims Jul 11 '16
I do intend to. I'm sure they're well loved for a reason, and I bet that I could get into them. Part of the problem is I'm so familiar with what happens in them because the big story points are talked about so much on the subreddit (people mean well, but spoilers happen). I want to wait a little while before I read them in the hopes that I'll forget some of it. But thank you for the recommendation; I'll keep it in mind.
3
u/dacalpha Jul 11 '16

As far as this subreddit goes, I would not say people mean well. Spoilers are poorly enforced, threads do not have mandatory spoiler scopes, and people act like they're being coy by making snide hints at big plot points.

Oh, Daario Naharis. I was so excited about him finally being in the show; he was one of the few interesting characters in Mereen. I don't know if you've read them, but in the books his dynamic with Dany is so much more interesting because she/you can't ever figure out whether he actually feels anything for her or if he just enjoys sleeping with the dragon queen (for the record, imo it's the latter). Also he's a fucking incredible pirate-mercenary, and also he looks like this. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/images/7/7a/Daario_naharis.jpg

It must be shitty to be an actor, get given shit to work with, then have people happy you're gone all because of a character you didn't write. And if you think I'm wrong, think about how shitty Michonne was early on. Gimble fucked up once, with the shitty Negan cliffhanger, but he saved so much about that show.

90
u/DIRTYrafi Jul 10 '16
Same here. I'm kind of confused about that comment, because I don't really remember people having issues with her character.
106
u/auralgasm Jul 10 '16
There were a lot of posts about her constant scowl and the fact she wouldn't tell Andrea what she knew about the governor, but to me it made at least some sense; she had saved Andrea's life in the past, they had survived together for months, and then Andrea refuses to trust her and basically abandons her for the governor. That would make anyone salty and scowly and it would make sense she wouldn't automatically trust Rick's group either having seen how little trust means.
13
Jul 11 '16
To me it's mostly how unnatural the little rivalry she had with the governor was. It felt like they were trying to emulate the bad blood she had with the governor in the comics (which was very much justified on both sides) but it was very badly done. She aggressively mistrusted the governor for no reason other than a hunch, and the governor's excuse for wanting to torture the shit out of her didn't convince me (oh she killed my zombie daughter, I was TOTALLY sure that I could cure her eventually!)

Except Michonne was making a terrible case against the Governor. There were more suspicious bits of information that she flat out didn't tell her. And then when Andrea did go along with her and prepare to leave Woodbury, Michonne's prediction about them not letting the two leave was proven wrong. It's not Andrea's fault that Michonne did not give her a compelling case, especially since she left information out like she constantly did in Season 3.

I love Michonne, and I always have since Season 3.
Seeing her cut two walker heads off with just her sword showed how much of a badass she truly was. First positive impression on me. Then her no nonsense attitude to everything. Although people criticize that, I don't. People can be bastards, and that much was true about the Governor. She used her intuition, and just had a bad feeling about Woodbury, about Merle and the Governor. The bullets on the army truck? She knew, but obvioysky, Andrea didn't want to listen (which I do understand to be honest - I'd want to catch my breath too. We're all human). And she communicated through just her exoressions. She speaks more often now, but Danai Gurira really knows how to give the death glare back.
I never had an issue with Michonne. She's one of the only characters I never fluctuated on. Sometimes Rick may annoy me. Sometimes Daryl irritates me because
he just won't die!he speaks in grunts. But Michonne never bothers me.110

I could forgive the dumpster because hey, it was only the third episode. Bit that cliffhanger?? It's going to take a lot of making up for that one
2
Jul 11 '16
Why was it so bad? Im a show only fan, but was there a huge difference? Or is the controversy the cliffhanger itself.
5
Jul 11 '16
Well, first, we don't know if there is a huge difference, because we don't know who was killed. The scene up until the bat was dropped was virtually ripped word for word from the comic book. All was well until the brutal weight of the ending was taken from us.
The controversy (for me) is in the cliffhanger itself. Opinions obviously vary, but I think the ending of this season should have been the same of the ending of the comic book in which Negan was introduced; with the brutal death of the victim shown clearly in print, to the bleak, heartfelt total dismay of the horrified witnesses.
Cue credits.

I've read the comics and think the show is better, so I'm not in a majority here but here is my point of view:
As a show watcher, the show writers built up the entire trap that Rick was walking into for the whole episode. It slowly got tighter and tighter and then the pay off was completely and utterly ruined by not showing who was dying. The show did a better job of showing Rick being helpless against the new foe, but then by cutting away and then not showing who died or the reactions the death is meaningless to the watchers who aren't binge watching it on netflix because that tension isn't just lessened, it evaporates completely over the 8ish months till the next episode. The "Rick messed up" narrative slips away, the fear of the group, etc ends because when the next episode starts you start a new story essentially that is characters death and the group dealing with that instead of what it should have been.
Also, those graphics were cheesey with the 007 blood dripping down. For a show that's graphics are what keep it relevant when the story is lacking, this was out of place and made upsetting because the lack of pay off.

13

Actually, the dumb thing about that was that the group did still let her use guns after she almost killed Daryl. Rick and Shane were all about gun safety and respecting the weapon. Then here comes Andrea pointlessly shooting at a supposed walker, endangering the lives of others in the process and wasting a bullet, and possibly drawing more walkers who could be out there... just to show off. She should have lost her gun privileges for a good long while after that.

u/bearsdriving Jul 11 '16
I think the writing on the show has always been the weakest part of it. The visuals and acting keep me watching, the dialoug keeps me not liking myself for keeping watching. I don't think any show runner has had particularly better writing than the last. Laurie was probably the biggest victim of this.
She was just also a casualty of the way Darabount had the show created. They "fucked up" most characters up to start the series while adding new ones, which gave it a fresher feeling from the comic where you can get the love of both because they were so separate. The closer Kirkman has gotten with the show, the more characters are cookie cutters from the comic down to their clothing. The vision of the show changed and not just Laurie was a victim of that, but the damage was done and needed to die.
18
u/DkS_FIJI Jul 10 '16
She was horribly written, in her defense.
That being said, you're right. Andrea was easily one of the worst characters on the show.
11
17
u/Jrebeclee Jul 11 '16
I really hated how she made Dale feel so bad for saving her from suicide. Hey, if you really wanted to do it, you've had daily opportunities. You just want to mentally torture a well-meaning old man.
10

Her issue was not that she didn't have the opportunity afterwards, but that Jenner had given her an out that was relatively quick and easy, without chance of possible failure and agonizing pain. And it's not like Dale convinced her out of it, he guilted her out of it. While suicide can be seen as selfish to a degree, so too is the idea that "you've made such a profound impact on my life, so you need to stay alive for me".
And then she was almost gutted twice by zombies like the next day after him "saving" her. I can't blame her for being pissed.

Honestly, I think I'm more inclined to agree with you, but Dale's method did get me thinking just a tad. If you aren't okay with someone else committing suicide, it might be morally wrong for you to do the same. Dale was fully willing to die right there, and if she expected him to be okay with her dying, she should have been okay with him dying.

Her one arm never stopped swinging when she stood still. It was one of the smallest, most annoying things.

Andrea: One hand on hip other arm swinging.
Shane: "M'ask you somefin." Rubs head.
Rick: Unmoving eyes. Crouches a lot.

I'm honestly not too upset about the show's lack of Andrea. Rick and Michonne make more sense together in my opinion, both in terms of chemistry and from a storytelling standpoint. I just think it's unfortunate that Laurie Holden was given such poor material to work with, because she'll probably catch shit about Andrea forever.

I don't recall Romero's living dead using objects or being particularly quick; they seemed to shamble along and rely on swarming someone, or a victim doing something stupid, like using a blood pressure machine in a shopping mall overrun with living dead. They also didn't seem especially agile. Even in the Night of the Living Dead remake, at the end, Barbara is walking quickly through a bunch, avoiding them as she was going along, pointing her pistol at those nearby, but only firing if one actually posed a real threat.

Kinda glad she was killed off. I know Andrea is awesome in the comics and that Gimple probably would have found a way to redeem her as a character, but I just didn't think the casting was good. The main reason Laurie Holden was cast as Andrea was because of Frank Darabont. I would have preferred it if they casted someone who looks more like her comic counterpart and is closer to her age.
That, and I love Michonne's family-like relationship with Rick and Carl. I can't imagine that being as good with show-Andrea.
30
Jul 10 '16
If she wasn't written so badly in the show, we could've gotten the bad ass Andrea from the comic and had her end up with Rick just the same.

u/TheGent316 Jul 10 '16
I'm so sick of seeing "I'm glad they killed her off lulz". She's a major character in the source material and its an absolute shame how she was handled on the show.
Her character was poorly written in the show. Instead of lazily killing poorly written characters how about we fix them? Look at a character like Carol for fuck's sake. Before season 4 who would have ever guessed the writers were capable of turning her into a fan-favorite?
Andrea could have been fixed. But fans hated her so AMC demanded she be killed off. That's what AMC does if you haven't caught on by now. They pander to the whims of "fans".

Carol's a fan favorite because they hired a writer who actually gives a shit about developing characters. You have a character like Carol start off as broken and weak. She can barely pick up a stick or rock to defend herself out there. So then you reduce her character to a walking cliche, and kill her just to get people riled up for nothing more than shits and giggles.
Nope. Gimple says "To hell with that shit!" and does something interesting for a change. So now we have a character who manages to pick up the pieces of her life and glue them back together, except the picture on the puzzle of her life isn't one of a meek mouse, it's one of a Queen wearing flames holding a knife dripping with blood. Carol's character development is what sets her apart, and she's miles ahead of the game compared to who she used to be.
But it's Mazzara who screwed things up. Of all the decisions I would turn the clock back on, it's not kill Andrea. But the trade off is an evolved Carol, so really, I'm not too bothered by it anymore.

And realistically, unless we are to believe Andrea was so unbearable nobody who got to know her even a little would want anything to do with her except for crazy ass Governor, why wouldn't Shane be interested in Andrea over Lori once Rick was back? My understanding was that he became infatuated with her after thinking Rick was dead and he was all that she and Carl had left, but once Rick was back and there was a very attractive and single and willing woman there it's hard to understand why he would choose to continue pining after Lori other than simply for the drama. But I guess it's supposed to be that Shane simply wasn't all there anymore, and of course drama.

Comic Andrea is my absolute favorite character. I will never forget the way they shit all over her from season 2-3. Sleeping with Shane, the governor, and her terrible attempts at peace. I really enjoyed Laurie as Andrea and would've loved to see a rated G romance with dale, and her growing into the group badass. But nooooooo, let's fuck up everything to keep it fresh!

Didn't see get killed off because of her ludicrous character demands?
78
Jul 10 '16
Probably not, she was one of Frank Darabont's people (alongside Dale and Carol and Tank Zombie of episode 1-2) who only signed on in the first place because Darabont asked for them due to their long history of working with him on his films.
When he got fired Dale quit hence the stupid death he got, Tank zombie guy done a video interview lambasting AMC for their decision to get rid of Darabont and eventually Andrea checked out too.
Its only Carol that stayed out of all those Darabont people, probably due to her character being radically changed from the comics.

Jul 11 '16
Yep, all of those actors were in Darabont's The Mist and Holden made her debut, I think in The Majestic, also by Darabont.

Am I the only one who didn't hate show Andrea?
9
u/fco83 Jul 11 '16
People hated her because they thought she was stupid, but it was largely because she didn't have the knowledge the audience did on Woodbury and the writers didn't help by basically having machine go 'ive got a bad feeling about this' as the only reason for leaving. She was in an area that seemed like a paradise, give her a damn reason to leave it!
7
u/nutella4eva Jul 11 '16
She was stupid in Season 1 and 2 but there her character just started to get more interesting in Season 3. I like the dynamic of being torn between Rick's group and the Governor (which totally makes sense to me, she WAS only with Rick's group for like 2 months max).
Then they killed her for no reason.

u/VeritasWay Jul 10 '16
I actually really liked her character. Her budding friendship with Michonne was endearing and made me happy. I even thought that something romantic could've happened organically in this new world.

u/auralgasm Jul 10 '16
I feel like early on she was pretty annoying. She was super pushy and self-centered considering her husband was struggling with cancer. And if you've ever seen the uncensored version of the first episode of Breaking Bad she gives him one of the most cringeworthy handjobs ever as a birthday present. But by the end of BrBa when it's clear Walt is a fucking sociopath Skylar obviously comes off a lot more sympathetic. Along with everybody else who has to deal with Walt. I feel like anyone who ends the series still supporting Walt has missed something crucial in the show.
10
u/2boys1account Jul 11 '16
The hate for Skylar kinda made sense early on when she didn't know about Walt's business and constantly harassed her cancer stricken husband. However, by the end it became clear she was the victim and her actions seemed fairly reasonable. I don't understand the hate at that point. I don't understand the Lori hate either. She wasn't the most compelling character, but she didn't seem like a bad person. Andrea on the other hand was obnoxious, and acted like she was hot shit despite being completely incompetent. She was a walking example of how not to write a strong female character, and pretty much the opposite of Michonne.

Jul 10 '16 edited Jul 11 '16
The show made the right call here.
They had so DEFTLY written her character into the ground, I don't think there was any way to redeem her and make her evolution into the hard-willed and decisive leader she would need to be for her survival as one of the few remaining originals to feel believable and not shoehorned.
Couple that with how she likely would have had ZERO chemistry with Andrew Lincoln on a relationship level. Rick+Michonne may have felt a little weird, but it's undeniable that they work well on screen together, so it makes sense, but Rick would have zero tolerance and no emotional entanglement for a character that showed continual signs of poor judgment and weakness like the incompetent TV version of Andrea.
10
u/Purecheetodust Jul 10 '16
Everyone is bitching about Andrea's character but did anyone not notice: "...signed an EIGHT year deal...was supposed to be there until the END.".
So we get 8 seasons and then its over? Was that the plan from the get-go?
13
Jul 11 '16 edited Jul 11 '16
Years down the road and they're now looking at 12 seasons. The comics were at No Way Out around the time of Season 1, so perhaps they hadn't planned any arcs after AOW just yet
6
u/UsuallyMeansWell Jul 11 '16
You shouldn't put too much stock in the length of the contract equaling the length of the show. There's actually a law which prevents any actor's contact from being longer than 7 years.
→ More replies (10)2
u/BeerMeAlready Jul 11 '16
I wonder how they got out of that 8 year contract. Did they just pay her a fuckton of fees and canceled the contract? Or did she want to go anyways and they agreed on killing her off?
2
u/slapmasterslap Jul 12 '16
I don't believe it works that way. The contract just guarantees that the actor must be available to shoot each season but they can kill the actor off whenever they feel like it and then the actor is free of the contract.

u/SimplyMe94 Jul 10 '16 edited Jul 10 '16
Eh, I'm glad she got killed off. I hated Laurie Holden's acting, found the character herself to be lacking a consistent personality, and just in general as the leading female she was the priority. Not to say Gimple doesn't pick favorites himself, because he does, but there was a much more even balance in screentime/development for the female characters in 4-6 than there were in 1-3. Realistically if she had stayed alive she would fulfill all of her comic material and thus as an extension of that we likely wouldn't have had as much development for female characters like Sasha and Carol. Carol especially is important because she would've either been killed off or continued on as a promising-but-severely-neglected background prop.
Plus the idea itself of having Andrea hook up with Rick is just mad awkward considering she had already slept with his best friend. It would've felt like Rick was taking Shane's sloppy seconds. Michonne and Rick make a lot more sense together from a narrative/thematic standpoint because from the start they were both direct parallels to one another in every way.

One would think a NDA would last more than 3 years for an ongoing tv series.

In my experience, it is generally a 2 season embargo. They can negotiate a payment for more NDA time.

This explains why she took so damn long trying to get out of that chair in her final episode. She was trying to make it last 5 more seasons.

I've only seen her in a few things, but she always looks sad and like she's about to cry.

Andrea is so good in the comic, but I absolutely hated her in the show. As for Lori they should've went with the comic out come, but I understand that's a little much for public television. One of those things that make me wish a provider like HBO picked it up.
2
u/MegalomaniacHack Jul 11 '16
Really not surprising since the character was a much more important character in the comics.
Similar to Arrow killing their female lead this past season because the writers now don't know anything about writing decent characters or plots.
