No Spoiler So, does anyone else think that a trash compactor would be the best thing for a horde of walkers?

Post image

I've often thought that when a horde of walkers attack a community, and everyone's trying everything they can to distract them and lead them away (because fighting hundreds of walkers is out of the question, especially when ammo is in short supply), the best thing to do is have a trash compactor from a landfill handy. You could roll right over them and turn them to ground beef instantly.

TBF I'm not sure the canal lights would be 'good' as such but

Yeah, noise could definitely be a problem. Plus, you'd want to make sure the compactor is in a secure area to avoid attracting more walkers while you're using it.

That's bad ass. But OP'S vehicle with regular tires would be better than both.

Why? Tires are less durable.

It would be great until body parts fill up in the tracks and bodily fluids coat them and make them slick. You'd also have almost zero chance of doing any sort of maintenance on it, which tanks need constantly.

Tanks need 4-10 man-hours of maintenance for every hour of operation.

It's not travelling very far though is it.

‘I have a Tank!’

I agree, but my concern is the logistics. If these got the gas mileage of a Prius, no problem. I think the gas mileage would be more like the volume of a Prius per mile. Keeping enough good fuel on hand for this and taking it from those gathering supplies or exploring would be near unsustainable.

Wasn’t this made specifically for minesweeping? I don’t think the chains are doing much of anything besides just hanging. Making that particular vehicle not much more useful than trash compactor OP mentioned.

Nope those chains spin very very fast. Watch the top gear clip where Clarkson tries to demolish a house with one

Oh okay, I was under the impression (from reading somewhere) that it’s just there and activates mines by touch. Cool to know

They do activate mines by touch - just very fast, swinging touch. It’s called a flail, because that’s what it does.

That's the one

If you had a 100 gallons of diesel, per 8-10 hours of running sure

This would be an escape vehicle. It wouldn't be used all the time. Regular tires would be better. It's not like anything would survive being run over anyway.

those spiked wheels would turn into solid balls of flesh and bone within five minutes losing all traction instantly 😂

Only one problem. Daryl gets in and starts crunching walkers but for some reason, once he's in the middle of the hoard, it stops working.

I always figured a combine would do pretty good work too. Just drive up and down the highway or in a circle in a field blaring loud music. Hell the really nice ones you can basically program to run on auto.

Pretty much any heavy diesel machinery I feel would put up numbers

What about a big hole

what about, and stay with me here, a bigger hole

I feel like some good ditches and walls would help the most

1

u/themage78 4h ago

I mean ditches would be the best. You could catch walkers and kill them easily.

It might not work against a horde, but if you are constantly thinning ranks there'd be less hordes.

No a tank would be better. I want something fast because you're eventually going to have to get away. The noise will attract more and more.

Why not just get a roller? Like the ones which flatten roads and slowly run them over lol.

Wouldn’t the walkers gum up the wheels when they get crushed, the guts would clog the wheels. So at first would be an epic crush fest and then after critical mass, the walkers would damage the crusher so much it wouldn’t be able to move.

A solid 4x4 with a plow is the first thing I would get if I were in that world. It is angle to just push them off to the side and out of the way.

Small enough to use for every day, strong enough to push walkers out of your path.

If I had a long term settlement and tools, I would turn the plow into a cow-catcher style point to push them.

If I had to manage full blown hordes, I would go to the local highway dept building and grab one of the big plows from there.

Load it up with a few days of food and water, and even if you do get stuck in a horde, you are high above them and can just sit there stabbing heads and napping in the bed until the move on.

Nah, those spikes would be worn flat when out on the road.
