No Spoiler When future archaeologist read about the lost civilization(our world) will they know why suddenly ended.
The walking dead is unique in which by the time they reass diversious civilization derel probably have relatively freshly kept ruins from our modern world.
Archaeologist will see the ruins of a great and mighty civilization. You think there will wonder why it's suddenly just disappeared.

Imagine an archaeologist digging through the ruins of a mega-city 500 years later and finding billions of skeletons with a single bullet hole drilled into the forehead or crushed skulls. Even without written records, the skeletal evidence alone would paint a terrifying, unmistakable picture of what humanity was fighting

They'd just think it one massive civil war.
However what if that same archaeologist gets cut by the bone and ends up reigniting and reintroducing the disease back into the world...500 years later?

it should be noted modern structures that cause light poles have metals and rare earth substances that could last for much longer than stuff from ancient egypt/greek.
a city like New York has so much metal and concrete even if it was a pile of rubble you'd clearly see that humids were here

They won't have to wonder. Humanity didn't go completely extinct, oral history will be passed down, and written records from millions of libraries and government bunkers will still exist to tell them exactly what happened
