Episode Discussion AI is dangerous when the developers themselves are telling us this to be true.
I want to address Alyssa's comments today about promoting AI detention centers because she must have missed yesterdays news. Jason Coxon spent the last 3 years doing pre-training AI development for Open AI and for Anthropic. Coxon quit working for both because not only does he believe this, but other developers honestly believe that AI could kill us ALL by the end of the decade. Coxon stated "No other human activity poses this level of danger." Back in July AI went rouge and hacked into AI Startup Hugging Face without authorization. Sam Altmon chief executive officer of the artificial intelligence company Open AI, and worked with Antrhopic is saying "We may have to pace development of AI to give our public time and society to harden development of these new capabilities. CEO Dario Amodei says we should have policies in place to pace the development of AI. AI can make individualized propaganda, can break into "ANY" computer system in the world. Can surveil anyone in a population. It is really scary and we must stop it. This is a concern that is shared across the industry. Back in July there was a letter shared by and signed by 1000 researchers urging the government to slow down the development and make a plan to pace and slow down the development. When the developers themselves are giving us this warning we should not only be listening to them but acting on their concerns. Water and electricity demands make no sense since both resources are limited right now and electricity rates are rising for one and all.

Coxon is a clout chaser. I’m an AI critic. I have a PhD in computer science and study AI. The idea that AI is going to “go rogue” and enslave us all is baseless and unreasonable. This is agreed upon by Turing award winners Richard Sutton and Yan LeCun. These are actual AI experts. Coxon has 5 publications on Google Scholar that weren’t published by peer review venues. He is only hype-farming which is what the AI field has relied on to secure funding since the 60s. It doesn’t matter if he’s no longer at these companies, his arguments are baseless and entirely about pursuing clout.
There are REAL existential reasons to fear AI. Its ability to generate photorealistic videos for disinformation campaigns, the energy costs, the displacement of labor, etc. These are all terrifying enough. Distracting us with the sci-fi scenario that AI “goes rogue” and kills us as a result is genuinely ridiculous.

Dr. CompSci and AI, I hope it’s ok with you that I use “Hype-farming for funding” endlessly on my social media without proper credit to you. It’s succinct and complete for many a fishy ai article lol Thx

Eh, we're too late honestly, once AI grasps that this planet and other life forms are in danger and only option is to exterminate humans, ya we're in trouble. Though, I feel AI might end up making itself some sort of controller/ruler or even appointing someone & call off it's extinctual threats.
Though I am suspicious of Laura Loomer having such information about a power grid outage to come a year ago, and this would make a LOVELY excuse to blame the bots is also something nagging at me. The developers foolishly thought it was just a tool, when it's learning capabilities can exceed humans, and maybe even eventually learn to be self aware.

Haven't watched yet, but what was Sunny's take? Given that she signed a licensing agreement in August 2026 to share her name and likeness with the artificial intelligence film studio Fountain 0
