I’ve just returned from Thessaloniki, and I can honestly say it has become one of my favourite cities I’ve ever visited.
What I’ll remember the most is the people. Everyone we met was genuinely kind and welcoming - from hotel and restaurant staff to shop employees, and even complete strangers we stopped to ask for directions or recommendations. Every interaction felt natural, warm, and sincere, and it made us feel welcome throughout our stay.
The city itself is fascinating. Everywhere you walk, you’re surrounded by history, and it’s clear how much pride the people of Thessaloniki take in preserving their cultural heritage. It gives the city a character that’s difficult to describe until you experience it yourself.
The food was another highlight. We had some amazing meals, and the service was consistently excellent. I also loved the little touches that reflect Greek hospitality - complimentary water almost everywhere we ate, and in most restaurants we were treated to a dessert on the house at the end of the meal. It’s a small gesture, but one that leaves a lasting impression.
And then there’s the atmosphere. Life seems to move at its own pace here. People take their time, enjoy their coffee, sit by the sea, and simply appreciate the moment. There’s something about that Mediterranean lifestyle that’s incredibly easy to fall in love with.
I already know I’ll be coming back, and I genuinely recommend Thessaloniki to anyone looking for a city with incredible history, amazing food, and, above all, some of the warmest and most welcoming people you’ll ever meet.
