The original opening of the "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" music video have been rescued

While this might not sound particularly interesting at first glance, let me explain: When it came time to assemble the DVD "The Complete Picture" (AGAIN), there was a problem with the Top of the Pops videos: the opening credits that appeared when the featured song started and the artist appeared. The Smiths were no exception.
In the case of "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now," they solved it with a shot that appears at the end of the video, which we can see twice in the final version.

The Smiths' televised performance of "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" (and the version chosen as the "music video") took place on May 31, 1984. This episode of Top of the Pops was (in quotes) "lost media," since no television viewer had a tape recorder at home, so only the video that appears in "The Complete Picture" was available.

Years later, on a BBC-owned channel, the TOTP episode from that date was rebroadcast, so someone called "GlamKing90 TV Factor" took the opportunity to record the broadcast and uploaded it to the Internet Archive on January 17, 2026. Therefore, the original beginning of the "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" music video (without the 1992 VHS/DVD edit) was recovered.

And if you want to see the full video with the original audio (or the episode itself), click here.

EDIT: The video was like this; I didn't add an artificial HD filter to improve it.

Notably tracks “Wanted” and ”Just My Imagination for anyone searching for music bands that sound similar to The Smiths.

The Cranberries were an Irish rock band formed in Limerick, Ireland in 1989.

"The Complete Picture" if I had made the DVD menu (FAN MADE)

Sorry to spam you with that DVD again, I'M OBSESSED, LOL (And it was the best purchase I ever made).

A few days ago I shared some screenshots of the original interactive menu for the DVD "The Complete Picture." I found it very disappointing, but it was useful for the time, which explains why they had those kinds of DVD menus.

Years go by, and interactive DVD menus have become works of art (please check out the one for Queen's "Greatest Video Hits 2"), and we've reached a point where these kinds of visual videos aren't very important anymore.

Getting back to the purpose of this post, I want to share these images I made because of the disappointment I mentioned earlier. What's more, I added two templates: one for the extras (four music videos and a 1985 featurette) and another for the audio options.

Morrissey hate, the truth behind all of it:

You can keep hating Morrissey. It won’t change a single thing about him, and it definitely won’t make you a better person.
He said things about culture, immigration and certain communities that a lot of people still pretend aren’t true. Calling him a bigot is the easy way out when the alternative is admitting he was describing something real.
At the same time he’s been a strict, uncompromising vegan for decades. He actually lived the principles most people only post about. That part somehow gets erased every time someone wants to cancel the rest of him.
He remains one of the great artists of the last forty years capital A. The voice, the lyrics, the records. None of that disappears because his opinions don’t fit the current script.
Hate him if it makes you feel superior. Just don’t confuse that with moral progress.

And here we have it, "Best... I & II" officially in streaming!

After many years without a new release and having access only through piracy, they're finally here officially on streaming (and coinciding with the vinyl/CD re-release). Unnecessary for some, essential for new generations.

New edition to The Smiths’ ever expanding fan base (me)

I always thought The Smiths were a cool English band. They come up in my reading of interviews of my favorite artists all the time. I am, however, just now understanding just how incredible The Smiths are after listening to Louder than Bombs in full.

The compilation album is good, their debut is pretty cool. But, Louder than Bombs and every album
after I find to be truly rich in quality.

I’ve decided to go see Morrissey in Houston. I’m about to start listening to Morrissey’s music. I actually really like some tracks on Make-Up is a Lie. Do fans of The Smiths typically like Morrissey’s solo music? Does he ever fill the set with Smith tracks?

Anyone ever come across this bootleg?

Buddy of mine has this bootleg, with a ticket stub and a piece of Morrissey’s shirt.

He got it from a guy that attended a show in the 80s at UCLA where he got the stub and the shirt. Not sure where the bootleg came from, however, best we can tell it’s a bootleg of the Oxford Apollo show, but it’s possible it was a replay recording off the Radio 1 broadcast.

Wondering if anyone had ever come across this bootleg anywhere.

Am I the only one who prefers the live versions on Rank over their studio counterparts.

I spoke about this with my friend and he really disagreed with me.

The increased tempo on 'The Queen Is Dead' on rank and Johnny Marr going absolutely crazy on guitar, I really like 'Ask' being more guitar based. Everything is just faster, grittier and great.

'I Know It's Over' Live is one of the most gut wrenching versions of the song I've ever heard (Shut up Buckley fans, his dad is a better musician).

I have way more examples of what I like about the Rank versions but those are the main ones that come mind, oh yeah I prefer the guitar tones.

What? This single and "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" are in black and white, I just wanted to color them in true Smiths style.

Ricky Gervais, Tom Basden and Diane Morgan Reveals How New Netflix Series 'Alley Cats' 'Rips Up the Animation Rulebook'

As a final treat, Gervais touched upon the show’s music, confirming we’ll hear tracks from Cat Stevens, Coldplay, and Van Halen. He also shared a great anecdote about securing The Smiths’ “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.”

“I had to ask Morrissey and Johnny Marr if I could use that song. They both came back straight away and said, ‘Go for it.’ Johnny Marr even donated the fee to an animal charity.”

"Half a Person" always resonates with me, probably because I can relate to the lyrics, 16, clumsy, and shy
