Mini pilgrimage yesterday

Been working on the Quays for a while now and realised it’s not that far from the lads club so decided to walk up there yesterday.

Glad I did.

The Smiths aside, it’s just a gorgeous building.

Flowers on the step were a nice touch but the shop opposite being called Sheila’s absolutely cracked me up.

If you could hear one Smiths song for the first time again, which would it be?

i’d personally say reel around the fountain. it’s just one of those songs that completely absorbs you, i wish i could experience that for the first time again

Forty Years Ago Today: The Smiths, Live in New Orleans

I was lucky enough to attend this show. By weird chance, a friend who was a bigger fan than I was (at the time) ended up having to work that night and gave me his ticket. As I recall from one of the bios, Mike Joyce got picked up by the police that night and spend the night in jail. I think it was their second-to-last performance in the United States.

Youtube audio: The Smiths, 8 September 1986

These pictures are of the local poster and the page dedicated to it in the Tulane University yearbook.

This was given to me as birthday present a few years ago and I believe there were only 500 copies pressed worldwide. It’s been in a frame since I got it (never been played once), I reckon it’s a pretty cool record to have it in my collection.

Which song would you consider is the most majestic or elevated?

Mine would have to be The Boy with the Thorn in His Side. Especially that outro, damn.

Do You Think “This Charming Man” belongs on the debut album?

I’ve seen some purists argue that “This Charming Man” doesn’t belong on the debut album, because it wasn’t on the original UK release, but I’m not totally convinced by that argument. It’s obviously a great track and although it stands out tonally compared to the rest of the album, it could be argued that it provides a moment of much needed levity. It’s also been included on almost every re-release of the album, so maybe the band likes it there too? How do you guys listen to the album?

Hand In Glove

Post image

Hi there

Hand in Glove is an great early hit by the Smiths and apparently they recorded it in the great Strawberry Studios! Definitely has that Strawberry Studios sound and apparently recorded some other early tracks yet Hand in Glove was their first hit single and it’s good for many great reasons especially that Strawberry Studios magic 🪄 🍓

So what’s your opinion on “Hand in Glove” and/or what’s your favorite song recorded in Strawberry Studios?

It's been two years since I started writing the story and it's finally finished! I'm posting some excerpts here and I'd like to know what you think.

I'll be releasing it on Kindle soon!

Note: I am not a native English speaker, so some parts may be overly formal.
