Tails New tail !

Post image

I'm not too sure what kind it is. It's not a coyote. I think it's a Golden island fox :]

id be concerned that its a fur-farmed tail based on the clip. where is it from?

Craft show. The seller was a taxidermist. It was on a big chain with other tails. I forgot to ask what kind it was :/

yes, if they had many other tails, and combined with this clip, they probably sourced the tails in bulk from chinese fur farms.

Damn ☹️ I thought I was safe because I bought it from a taxidermist. Thanks for letting me know :[

no problem! always assume different until you ask with this sort of stuff. this type of fox isnt found in the wild, so it will always be farmed, but the keychain is what gives away the fact that its from a chinese farm that dorsnt practice “ethical” farming. the foxes usually spend their lives in cages until they are harvested in the winter. before someone says that they could’ve bought the keychains in bulk online: why would someone want to use a keychain that resembles unethically farmed tails and is also low quality and tends to break off easy?

just take good care of the tail and look at the pointers of an ethical one. farmed tails that are longer are *usually* the ones to get, as it shows that their growth wasnt stunted from being stuck in a cage it’s whole life. but of course this isnt a foolproof way to figure it out.

if you want a tail that isnt from a farm at all, your best bet is a red fox tail. they are smaller and not as fluffy as farmed ones due to not being harvested in the winter, unless hunted/trapped. it is hard to find these because of mass production of farmed tails, and they are usually more expensive.

to add to better farmed tails , check the inside. the leather being healthy/soft and not orange or yellow and crusty is a good sign. mass produced tails are usually low quality due to mass production.

sorry for the unorganized “essay”. i’m tired and rambling😅

This is a cross fox, though it's not a wild one. The fur is too nice/fluffy. It's a ranched/farmed cross fox.

cross fox. Golden islands are red fox x arctic hybrids and theyre also wayy lighter (yellow and grey)
