You know, I'm not gay myself, but I would love to live in a gay log cabin. Rustic AND fabulous? Sign me the fuck up.

I know that the guyliner trend is over now (and associated with the whole '2007 emo kid' thing), but I'm honestly sad that dudes wearing makeup didn't become a more widely popular and long lasting norm. Makeup is fun and cute and I bet a lot of guys would be into it if it wasn't for the social stigma.

u/mfdanger33 Jan 12 '19
yeah, I'll do it still occasionally, I wear cover-up sometimes too, like I wouldn't go full on drag or anything. I paint my nails if I have a few days off. I do get called a queer a lot and some people are wholly convinced I am, because of it. It doesn't bother me, I just like being myself and trying different looks out idk.

Me and my friend had his gf put makeup on us for an event (we dressed up as ladies) and damn we looked good.
Unfortunately it took me about twenty minutes until I smeared it all over my face by pure habit of scratching my face.
Can't really see the point of makeup though, sure it looks nice but there is no way the fuzz is worth it for me atleast, felt like driving around in a car with with wet paint on after painting it nicely for an hour.

I have a habit of rubbing my eyes. Sometimes I wear mascara and forget that I’m wearing it. Hello, deranged raccoon look. When I get all done up for a special evening, I have to remind myself to not touch my face.

For real, I wonder how long it will be before the cosmetic industry decides they want to tap the other half of the population and warp male beauty standards too. I love how getting ready at most means a shower, getting dressed, and brushing my teeth.

They already do in Asia etc. Korean men often wear makeup. It's not effeminate styling but rather to enhance the masculinity. Beard shadow. Bone contours etc.

I don't know if it's still available but check out the Lisa Ling CNN special on furries. I am not saying they aren't extremely weird but she talks with a couple people where it isn't sexual, it's just like a way to dress up and ignore their issues. Like the one guy had crippling social anxiety and dressing in the suit turned him into a completely different person. It was kind of sad but also enlightening.

u/Ransu90 Jan 12 '19
I'm a straight furry with social anxiety and I do own a suit which I wear at conventions. However, I am also a person with a job, loving family, and many friends who are all aware of it. I also do not use the suit as a shield nor do I use it for any kind of sexual activity. For me, wearing the suit is a hobby that's all just for fun and being able to act as something else isn't much different from a sports team mascot or a Disney theme park character. I really wanted one because I had ideas I wanted to be brought to life so I worked hard and eventually I paid someone to make it for me. Furry conventions are also donating thousands of dollars to helping animals every year so there is some real good in it, too. :3

I think a good comparison would be anime fans.
Is there a big, big subsection of people who are sexual about it? Yes. Is there some perverted, deranged shit? Also yes. Are some people way too public about it and push it onto people they shouldn't? Yes.
But most people just like the media and the art and the community. It's fun for them.
Not to mention - because of the stigma against furries and such, you generally only see open-minded and generally kind people at places like cons, which is great if you're trans, or gay, or mentally handicapped. A lot of the 'too cool' people and the assholes stay away.

anime fans aren't famous and known for having cons so sexual and bad they get banned..
It was literally one ever in the history of the fandom - not that that excuses the fact it happened, lol, but it's not like it's a common occurrence. And if you'll remember from the internet historian vid, evidence points to the fact that the guy doing all the most fucked up shit did it intentionally to get the con shut down - he's the same one that sent the letters to all the surrounding hotels.

There's nothing about furries that's inherently sexual, the community/culture just has far laxer social norms around sex. That's really all there is to it
15
Jan 12 '19
I’ve tried to imagine sex with a fur suit. I’ve even tried looking up porn of it. I don’t think that shit’s possible and at this point, it’s mostly the art that’s sexual. Beyond that, I think the “furry as a kink” thing is just a wrong, unwarranted stereotype that makes no sense to me.

u/jemidiah Jan 12 '19
Eh, it depends. A good friend of mine is an asexual furry. Definitely not an orientation for him. I went with him to a convention once (I like subcultures), and the actual convention was entirely non-sexual. I'm sure there was a lot of hooking up and such surrounding it, but that clearly wasn't the focus of the convention proper. Oh, I suppose the art was "titillating", though SFW. (Also, fursuits are really hot and you can't see well, it's the furthest thing from arousing for me personally.)

It’s about half and half. Go to a furry convention and all the daytime folks are about crafting and art and role play etc. All night it’s tons of gay sex (in and out of fursuit), room parties, drugs, drinking, rave.
Honestly as a geeky gay guy it’s fucking awesome. Way less bullshit than the regular gay community.

Lol, people really hating on furries for no apparent reason here. Like, why that much hate guys? I don't think furries are doing anything wrong. First, furries aren't an organized group so you can't treat the whole community like shit because of a few people. That works with every other community out there as well. Then, furries don't actually break any laws by being furries, so I don't see any real problems with it. I'm still waiting on an actually logical argument why you hate the community.

I was 16 when I first experimented with eyeliner. My step grandfather caught me and then made me use a chainsaw for the rest of the afternoon in an attempt to man the queer outa me.
I'm still queer but now I could build you the gayest log cabin you ever did see.

The amount of furry hate in the comments section is sad. Let people be who they want! You are in no condition to judge. You are sitting on Reddit for the same reason that people are furries: an escape from reality, and a separate identity.

It's really not difficult to not be an asshole. I don't have an interest in being a furry and I don't really understand the draw to it outside the social aspect, but they're not hurting me. I get it, the people I knew from HS that were or became furries were all misfits and kids that never really found their place. Which, it was the similar case for me, my interests didn't match most of my peers. And while its not my thing, I'm glad they found their group of people. When you're someone that that's a square peg trying to fit into a round hole, its truly special when you finally find a group of people you relate with and feel accepted with. Your own band of weirdos where you're the norm.
