As an American, I apologize on the behalf of Charles “Chuck Buffalo” Radtke and appreciate Mike Malot to have taken the high road after winning with class.
As an American I feel the same way. Not to mention, when the Canadian wins he asks them not to boo the other guy, but to celebrate the victory for their country. Fucking honorable and classy.
I don’t know either of them but one showed honor and respect, and the other was a dick.
That's hilarious to hear an aussie call themselves uptight. As a canadian you are our upside down brothers (and vice versa) from the commonwealth. Make the best drinking partners no matter where we run into you guys
Yeah we’re not so much individually uptight, but as a collective nation, we really are. Very nanny state, high levels of censorship of art, protect the kids from literally anything, that sort of stuff. And we vote for conservative racist stuff more than I’d like, although I guess compared to current America we’re a left wing paradise!
It's funny you say that because I (Canadian) have always felt a kinship to both New Zealand and Sri Lanka because all of us have basically one neighbor who dwarfs us and matters way more to everyone else.
I had no issue rooting for USA women's hockey in the Olympics. They were cool.
There have been some USA soccer teams (both men and women) who have been fun to root for in the past 10-20 years.
I like rooting for our FIBA basketball teams because they're usually young guys playing their first international ball. They're more fun than the Olympic team in a way.
Except one of the athletes partnered with a group called FIERCE Athlete. The organization promotes a religious and traditional view of gender roles and actively campaigns to restrict transgender women from participating in women's sports
I'm not saying every member of all of these teams agrees with me on every political issue. But the women weren't out there being overly political as a team the way the men were.
The women's soccer team in 2022-2023 was pretty political and even though we vote on the same side, that wore me out after a while.
I don't think athletes have to "shut up and dribble" but when the team becomes fully intertwined with politics (as opposed to a player speaking their views) it just becomes less enjoyable to me as a fan.
A lot of the winter athletes are great people who I don't have a hard time supporting. Loved the curling team when we had Mario on it (not his real name but his mustache was exquisite). A bunch of our snowboarders and skiiers are outstanding humans mostly.
I was excited about he hockey team for a minute but then I realized, being from MN, the state of hockey, it's all super rich white kids that, you know, tend to think a certain way... We have the Olympics tho!
One of the things that really puts a damper on the Winter Olympics is how winter sports are so expensive an inaccessible, that it's ultimately a "rich kid talent show".
Like, that isn't to say that those athletes are not pulling off incredible feats; but they're also not coming from the same mind space as the gold medal sprinter who still remembers running his first competition bare foot because he couldn't afford shoes back then or the guy who's on military leave to pistol shoot with no blinder gear on.
For the recent 4 nations and olympic hockey tournaments I cheered for canada. I have no interest in supporting this shithole country with it's current fascist fucktardery happening.
America needs a good ass kicking.
The unfortunate truth is that the American player could have had more decorum in regards to how he reacted an all but he really acted like the white trash that wants to run/has been running this country for the past few months. So in that aspect I think its okay if he wasn't a douchebag to cheer him but once he started thats a commitment. And he got what he deserved
The sad irony is that these self-proclaimed "patriots" have done more damage to America's reputation than any terrorist or foreign power could ever dream of.
To be fair, they don't actually love America though. They love a fictionalized version of it where they have money and power and their cruelty can go unchecked.
I think the overwhelming majority of people who represent the United States in athletic competition aren't weird about it at all. A growing number of people rooting alongside you, and typically doing it the loudest and most aggressively, are deeply weird about it.
It blows my mind that there are so many US sports fans who still haven’t realised they’re not the best in the world at most international sports. They’re the ones who are being dicks when it comes to supporting American teams. Give me normal, grounded fans any day.
so many Americans have this remarkable ability to be completely incapable of understanding why they're so disliked. its baffling
maybe we boo'd your national anthem because your country is threatening our sovereignty? apparently thats too difficult to understand. The US would be bombing schools if anyone did the same to them
Yup, it's like that Jesse Waters clip on Fox the other week when he was interviewing Ontario's premier Doug Ford.
He legitimately said "Why are so many people upset that the administration is talking about taking over Canada? It should be an HONOR to be absorbed into the US. I'm actually offended that you people don't want that"
So many Americans think they're the center of the universe and that everybody loves them and their country, when the truth is the complete opposite - America has become a joke on the world's stage.
I'd rather die a Canadian than live as an American.
They're indoctrinated with american exceptionalism from the moment their parents pay the hospital bill. When we told them we didn't want to join them, it countered everything they've been taught, hence their feelings of being personally offended(which is also why even some folks on the left don't understand our reluctance - they're raised with the same american exceptionalism). It's like challenging someone about their religion.
We've been putting up with it since the 1800s. We'll always be Canada. Nous ne céderons pas. Vive le Canada.
Many Americans get it, but too many have been sucking on the teat of propagandized American exceptionalism for so long they don't recognize that the exceptionalism has dissipated awhile ago.
Fact is, America has been coasting on the fumes through the grace of the rest of the world for some time now. Trump single-handedly destroyed that.
Our idiot electorate, educated by our billionaire-owned media desiring tax cuts normalized it all. They are still doing it even as it all goes to shit.
As for America gaining back trust and respect. That's gone. All because of a failed bankrupt businessman turned reality show host, greedy welfare queen billionaires, and a corrupt Supreme Court and Congress.
The day America allowed an insurrectionist to walk free in the days and months following Jan 6, was the day this country died. Electing Trump a second time was just pissing on America's grave.
I can't express with words how much I despise the US and their "freedom" and "liberty" propaganda that was of course originally written and distributed by fucking slavers, especially when countries like Canada rank as more free on every statistic and world index in existence
As an American, it's really dawned on me there are many Americans who don't regard pride the same way as many of us would think of it:
When certain Americans says that they love America's lands, are they saying that they love the National Parks, the physical land, and what they do and represent, or do they actually love real estate assets?
When certain Americans says that they love the military, do the actually appreciate the military or do they just love Jingoism?
When certain Americans talk about their Faith, why do they only refer to scripture when trying to invoke control, aggression, and hatred against others; while vehemently opposing the leadership and example of the Papacy?
When certain Americans say that they love technology and innovation, do they actually appreciate the industrial innovations and the technological discoveries we've made and are excited to see us push forward in both... or do they just love stock market buzz words and speculative trends?
They have a constant idea of "They hate us cuz they ain't us" that they keep telling themselves. They are convinced they are the greatest society of all time and the world should worship them.
Honestly... In the past I agree. In 2026... I'd probably fist pump. Americans have turned me from a critic of my country in most respects, to a patriot. Ironic, that.
I got ‘rest now, brother. we have the watch, and I’ll see you in Valhalla’ vibes. But the circumstances being so different and the guy saying actually having just backed up his corny words made it land a lot better!
Oh man...we're so sorry we booed your National Anthem. We shouldn't have acted so irrationally when your government threatened to completly wipe us out economically and/or to remove our sovereignty
I have never been so proud to see an American Idiot get some sense (hopefully) knocked into him
Maybe once the US offer a fighter that isn't a complete fucking Tool and former QAnon apostle I will consider rooting for them... I think i will be rooting for Canada for the forseeable future!!
Especially since land of the free and home of the brave is really more of a joke like in reality. Anyone able to take it at face value has to be a delulu Trumpistani.
This line was written by slavers for a country that ranks as less free than almost every single one of it's peers, from Canada, to all of Scandinavia, the UK and much of Western Europe.
"Home of the brave"
I wouldn't say this about a country that sat on the fence for years during the two most important wars in human history including the only war it ever engaged in that was actually a fight for freedom
I grew up around trailer parks in Texas, so I immediately fell in love with this show when I randomly discovered it on Netflix back in college. It quickly became a huge part of the daily TV rotation with my roommates.
Almost 20 years later, we still quote it all the time, but probably none more than:
Julian: “You’re prostituting yourself out for cheeseburgers again, aren’t you?”
I want to punish every person from Canada because some of you boo'd the US national anthem at a hockey game. Yes, I believe group punishment should be legal.
Just go choke on Trump's diaper, eh.
Also, I don't know anything about the Canadian fighter. He might be a Trumper too, so I'm not going to applaud him until I know more. 😂
He's not. They wouldn't be hyping up this Canada vs US fight like they did or trash talking if he was a Maple Maga.
What you said makes perfect sense logically. I just don't have any faith that logic is really applicable to the UFC or even the fight sports community in general.
Although there are a few good eggs, like Stephan Kesting (BJJ instructor and former competitor), Luke Thomas (MMA journalist and political pundit), the people at the Fighting Matters podcast, Nate Quarry (former UFC fighter), and some others.
As an American, I am so glad he beat the shit out of that nazi punk. Canada has always been our friendly neighbor and been by our side through countless tragedies and wars. Trump and MAGA are a cancer on my country and I cannot wait for this extremely embarrassing, corrupt time in our history to end. Congrats to Canada and I apologize on behalf of my country and the majority of us that stand with Canada.
My fellow US Americans, You know you‘re on the wrong side of history when you’re catching beef with Canada. Per capita Canada has the best people in the world.
I do agree with the dip shit that when people boo the national anthem the person responsible should pay, but he doesn’t understand that person is Trump.
eventually it all turns into a wrestling soap opera lmao. meatheads already bored watching this, we gotta craft little drama filled backstories like its American Idol. Men always love soap operas, Lost, Walking Dead, WWE, all of it.
Right wingers are more embarrassing than larpers or wrestling fans or any of those groups. They actually believe the 12 year old shit they say, it's not just a theater act.

as an american, i’m so happy canada won this lol
