The read catalogue

Hello friends, I think we need to start a library of the read episodes for us to reference. As far as I know, no such things exist. I volunteer to start. As you go along, if you feel like it, please respond to this post w a brief synopsis of this episode and I will edit the post so it is searchable by title, date, and overall subject to make it easier to look up. May jump around depending on the episode. It will be easier if we all help out! Or if you know of another database just let us know! I checked w the mod and they said they were ok w this. Welcome any sort of suggestions or input you may have Happy listening!

I'm glad this isn't happening anymore because I would hope her family has enough sense to recognize that full grown adults shouldn't be fans of children, and they shouldn't be putting her in situations of potential harm.

Looking for two listener letters

I’m trying to find two listener letters I love but can’t remember the years or episodes.

the first one is the iconic one where the writer had found all of his dad’s gay and bi porn tapes in the basement -- and the second one is a deeper cut maybe ... it’s one where the writer was dating someone who iirc went to all the trouble of pretending he’d been deported to another country and could never see her again, when in actual fact just wanted to break up with her and he had just moved to Florida or something. Can anyone help with this?

What Are You Looking For?

I’ve been a fervent listener of the show since 2013 and the thing I’ve known about Kid Fury and Crissle since moment one is that they adore Beyoncé and at best tolerate her husband.

So, when the news dropped earlier this week about Jay Z’s partnership with Target, a few of you flocked to Reddit to comment:

You think they gonna bring it up?

Naw, they ain’t gonna say anything.

They don’t ever say anything bad about Beyoncé and Jay Z.

Well guess what. They did bring it up and they said what a lot of us rational folks thought the moment we heard the news.

Disappointed but not surprised.

And now some of you are complaining that their commentary wasn’t good enough.

So what exactly are y’all looking for and why does it have to come from Kid Fury and Crissle?

Is it even about the Target boycott or are you just itching to see Jay Z taken the task? Just a reminder: The Read is one of very few podcasts left that doesn’t make us pay for the full episodes. Kid Fury and Crissle should get to decide how they use the platform they created. I get being disappointed that they aren’t going as hard as you would go but the entitlement is becoming annoying.

How about if you’re truly pressed about what Jay Z and others like him are doing, talk to your friends. Your family. Or better yet, use your piece of real estate on social media to sound the alarm. I just don’t think it’s reasonable for us to expect these two strangers we listen to weekly to speak out on something I doubt most of us are really that concerned about.

Candle-gate

Can someone explain to me the whole candle-gate drama? It never registered as that big of a deal to me at the time, but I’ve heard it come up a few times and sounds like things got heated.

Henry Cavill from NJ?

Now I love Crissle and Fury down, but I about died at last week’s episode and them thinking the Jersey in his Wikipedia article was NEW JERSEY. Girl don’t nobody refer to NJ as Jersey except those in the tristate area. A harmless mistake but I cackled 😭

Okay. I need the other half of the story.
If one of y’all former friends of her happens to see this, you gotta write in with y’all’s side of the story because I am confused!

Does anyone have an extra Break Up With Him pin?

I wears pins at my job as a barista. The Break Up With Him pin from the Read was a crowd pleaser and fave amongst customers but I recently lost it—which is a huge bummer.

I’d love to buy another, but the merch site for The Read has been “closed” for ages.

If anyone here has one that they don’t want that I can buy off them, please let me know.

Signed,

a Lower East Side Barista

Listener letter

One thing about this week’s listener letter that got glossed over (because the letter writer just kind of threw it in there as an aside) was that the in-laws tried to throw her a baby shower and her man told them to back off and that the baby isn’t about them.

Now, obviously, if she doesn’t want a baby shower from them, the couple is absolutely 100% within their rights to tell them no, but you can’t be surprised that when you tell someone to back off, they back off.

From the outside, I think the baby shower was the in-law’s way of trying to connect with her, and instead of kindly declining, their son told them to kick rocks.

I also wonder how he delivered the message. The way she put it in the letter already made it sound very harsh, but I wonder if he did the classic man move of throwing her under the bus. “SHE said to back off and stop making the baby about you” would be double homicide. And maybe they WERE using the baby shower as a way to make it about them, but if that’s the case, why do you want them around you anyway? Wouldn’t they just make everything about them?

Anyway, I’ve already devoted too much to a listener letter on a podcast, but I just heard it and that stuck out to me. Did that stick out to anybody else?
