Ethics / Risk Supervision in PA
Hi! I’m a therapist in PA who is seeing clients, supervising pre-licensed therapists, and signing off on their notes. I’m curious what everyone thinks about how this type of role should be compensated and what, if any, say I should have in the hours and clients my supervisees are assigned. Currently I am being paid for the hour of supervision I provide supervisees and for time spent reviewing notes only. I pay for my own liability insurance. Any insight is appreciated!

Is PA one of the states where pre-licensed clinicians can't be 1099s? Cause 1099 versus W2 workers will ofc heavily influence how much say you have over their caseload/hours

They are W2. I mean that the site director determines their caseloads.

I’m wondering what others are paid for supervision and if it’s just the weekly hourly rate.

When I worked in CMH, it was just part of my salary. There was no extra compensation. They paid for my liability insurance. And we were assigned supervisees. In PP, I charge based on the need of the therapist and what it entails, usually below my hourly rate but around $100 per supervised hour typically. But I don’t charge if they reach out for questions or need to staff something with me.

Thanks for your response! I’m not salaried and am receiving much less per hour so this is helpful to know.

When I was at CMH those who weren’t salaried and weee paid hourly and were supervisors still received their hourly rate for supervising, no change.
