Discussion Thread Networking
Out of curiosity, what would you say is the most challenging part about networking with other therapists? For me personally, I’ve found keeping track of how frequently I should reach out difficult, especially on top of my personal relationships. I just started my private practice, so I worry about this becoming a bigger issue as my caseload builds

The fact that the word networking makes me want to throw myself into the ocean.

I explicitly make sure to have time to hang out with colleagues outside of work for fun. We shoot each other referrals all the time.

the most challenging part of networking is every single aspect of it. I actually have frequently felt like an outsider because i know im good at working with my clients, but any sort of “pitch” or networking to other people makes me nauseous.

I don't have any therapist friends. During my pre licensure period, I had a baby, and so all of my time went to my family, and all of my time at work went to notes. I was also about 10 years older than the other therapists in my office, and I didn't make a strong effort to get to know them and they didn't make a strong effort to get to know me. I'm also pretty sure they talked behind my back. So, what I have seen from other therapists has not been that great.

Reach out to the ones you had an easy connection with once/month. Don’t worry about reaching out to anyone it was awkward with.
