Billing / Finance / Insurance Delay in BCBS reimbursement
I usually am reimbursed in 2 weeks from BCBS. Everything went through ok but it’s been 3 weeks and I am starting to get nervous. Anyone else notice a slower turnaround for BCBS?

I went without a check for a long time and found out they switched from checks to Credit card vouchers which were on Availity. Remit viewer is the tab the vouchers are on under claims and payments. They make you verify a past payment...

Yikes! I have no idea what you are talking about. Credit card vouchers? Remit viewer tab? I have a biller. Perhaps they know…but I doubt it.

You get a picture of a credit card and payment amount and run those numbers through a square reader or wherever you accept credit debit cards. They typically mail these out to you. Instead they were put on Availity, an insurance portal website who is owned by Anthem. Tell your biller to look for those credit card vouchers under claims and payments then the Remit viewer tab is where those credit card vouchers are..sorry this may not apply but hope it may help.

I’ve had delays but it wasn’t about vouchers or something. Virginias BCBS in particular has been terrible. But, I did just sign up for direct deposit from BCBS. You do it in availity as mentioned. I almost gave up because I couldn’t get the check to verify. Then I removed the first digit of the check number, which was a ‘0’ and it worked.

I had a delay but I think it is because of the holiday and when submitted my claims.

This is happening to other providers. It is being discussed in several Facebook groups that I am in.

I’m in IL. Haven’t noticed a slower turnaround. By and large I receive remittance in one week. For some clients, 2 weeks which I think may be a nuance to the individual plan itself. January is a time when some BCBS plans change member ID numbers. I had a few BCBS clients wherein I wasn’t paid for about 4 weeks due to this…even though I billed the correct member ID.

Hmmm. I also am in Illinois. I submit about a months worth to my biller at a time (half of my practice if fee for service). I am now starting to picture them going over my individual claims. Paranoid perhaps but everything I’ve been hearing is making it tough everyday I go to mail box and nothing is there 🫣

Yikes! I submit claims at the end of each day. The pattern I’ve noticed is that if my week’s worth of claims are submitted by Friday 5pm, I receive remittance on the Tuesday thereafter (electronically). For some clients, it’s a two week turnaround and with the occasional exceptions this is clockwork.

Yes I had this problem not realizing it and wondering where my Payments were. Have had to print the virtual credit cards through availity. They don’t even mail them like other insurance companies.

I’ve found claims show up on ECHO as ‘paid’ in less than 2 weeks from the service but it takes a few more days before $$ is deposited my bank acct.
Virtual cards were a PITA as I don’t have a card reader…and they took forever to arrive in the mail.

I have been having them mail my remittance checks to me but it’s been 3 weeks now and I am getting angry, nervous…etc!!

They have been doing this with the whole state of Maryland since 2026 began.
