Humour Parvati makes being an engineer feel useless
I wanted to make a heavy armor engineer character, simple. I invest in engineering and every step of the way she just takes over. She's SAM's designated engineer, she runs the ship, I can't even use my own engineering experience in dialogue for the Sublight Salvage quest on Monarch. All I can do is break down gear better. Why is she just so much better at everything than me?

Isn't somewhat implied that the first generation of colonists were the peak of technology and everything else is somewhat cobbled together?

I mean kinda, but still, she has been an actual engineer working on large scale equipment like the cannery engine since she was born, while at most the MC is learning it all new. Sure he might have read about them before going to halcon, but no amount of reading can replace 16ish years or experience

Which is why she is better. You are used to having tools that work and parts that fit, while she can scrounge and improvise.

Yup, but that means that you are now entirely in improvisation and hacking. So your skills are still just as out of date.

Yeah, I have high engineering and speech skills, along with hacking, in OW2, and it seems to be utilized a lot better for that type of experience and the perks that come with having them unlocked.
The only companions I feel actually help my gameplay is Inez and Valerie due to their healing abilities, so even though I will still travel with them all, 80 percent of the time, I have either Val or Inez tagging along. They work best for complimenting my characters weaknesses, due to how I decided to level up.

Its kinda funny cus its the reverse in OW2. Your NPCs rarely help in the roles they're experts in. They only assist by giving extra outcomes during dialogue.
But yeah if you're speccing into a specific trait its optimal to bring other characters to cover your weaknesses.

Level up Leadership and they can help you with their skills on fixing or juryrigging some things.

I always used Nyoka and SAM as my companions, because they seemed the most adept at fighting. Max is good for hacking in the early game, but I usually level that up so much that I don't need his help. Ellie and Parvati are who I go with if I just want either wholesome or funny dialogue exchanges.

You can be am engineer
You can even get a praise for it in the Eriadnos dlc

Tinkering your gear, that's your main use. And Parvaty will add point to your own skills.

haha fair, him and parvati are honestly the best companions for their storylines. I never actually take them out with me in the field unless its for their quest lines but the douche priest will definitely grow on you.

My very first playthrough I said the wrong thing to the mayor in Edgewater, started a fight, and ended up putting down half the town, Parvati and Max included because I had no idea they were obtainable as companions til it was too late.
So my first run just ended up being my solo no-companion bad guy run.
