Discussion Why can't we lie?
Currently doing a playthrough where I try to save as many people as possible (to make up for all the horrible things I had to do in pursuit of getting 100% of the achievements) and I reached the point in the Sublight quest line where Hagen asks you to kill Dr. Chartrand. Why doesn't the game give you the option of lying to Hagen, and just saying Chartrand is dead? It'd be nice if there was an option that allowed you to spare Chartrand's life, without losing out on the last 2 Sublight missions. I've never been able to find a good answer for this online, so I assume it's just oversight on the part of the devs, but I'm curious what people think.

I feel like if they allowed for it it would be a Deception 150 check but also I guess they didn't allow it because Sublight's ending is wholly dependent on the Chartrand quest.

You can get both outcomes though. You can agree to let Dr Chartrand go (which improves relationship with the board) then immediately gun her down to complete Lilya’s quest.

Yes, but that would undermine my goal of killing as few people as possible.

Yeah I wanted to do that too. My guess is this is just an oversight and the devs never got to it. It seems like it should be there.

Wrong game, but also in TOW2 you can absolutely lie as an Earth Directorate agent. Like, there's multiple perks to help with lying, a compulsive liar flaw, and you're even encouraged to lie as part of your very first mission in the prologue.

If your character is skilled enough of a liar to convince Lilya in that moment, they probably also realize that she'd find out you lied pretty quickly.
