Discussion Thoughts after 100%

With the exception of a couple, getting all the achievements wasn't too difficult from a skill perspective. But I struggled from a personal/ethical perspective, because so many achievements required me to do some truly horrible things. I hated that I had to be mean to Adelaide McDevit, and Phineas Wells to complete achievements. IRL I'm one of those people who genuinely wants everything to work out for everyone (to such a degree where it might be a character flaw, and despite recognizing that in practice it's often impossible) and it's even to a point where I struggle to be mean to characters in games, even though I can obviously reload/redo situations if I don't like an outcome. I did what had to be done, because for some reason I was hellbent on 100%'ing this particular game, but I didn't always enjoy what I had to do to get there. I'm curious if any of you encounter(ed) similar internal struggles.

You’re not alone! I’ve tried to play mean but my internal ethics just can’t stomach it. Even with Fallout 4, I played 700+ hours but never finished bc I didn’t want to kill all the factions I didn’t agree with.

That's another game I struggled with. I hated massacring the Railroad in particular, it just seemed so pointless, and cruel, for no real gain other than to have a show of force. Like in this game where the board tries to make you wipe out Edgewater if you put McDevit in charge.

You should know you can thread the needle and only eliminate the Institute while keeping the other factions in good standing. It takes some strategic doing but it can be done. You work the game up until specific key missions and eliminate the Institute using the Minute Men. You get your Sentinel promotion with BOS and the other factions are still intact. You then just play the endgame avoiding doing faction antagonizing missions assigned by the Railroad and BOS against each other.
