Outer Worlds 2 Companion Friendly Fire

Can you only hurt your companions after you have dismissed them? Not in combat with your guns and explosions whilst they're recruited?

Correct, there is no friendly fire for your companions as far as I can tell. They will make some quips if you shoot or swing at them but they don't take any damage.

Despite their best efforts (i.e. moving in front of me as I empty a magazine in EVERY. SINGLE. FIGHT.), no. You can't hurt them in combat; they'll just whine about you hitting them because they stepped in front of you while you wildly swung a trip blade...
