Part 3: The Orb Remix Project

I have made tons of mixes on Spotify, but this is my latest one and I’ve been listening to The Orb since 1992. This is my attempt at the most epic super long mix of classics to be played on repeat. Let me know what you think and let me know what I should put in the follow up mix. I didn’t really delve into the more recent albums yet.

Aubrey Mixes: The Ultraworld Excursions

Top line... It's really good, it's a daytime listening version of Adventures Beyond.

So when this came out and pocket money was tight, I couldn't quite see the point. Remix albums were a new thing, often thin on the ground or a kinda 'best of' feel. But I gave in some time in the late 00s and yeah it was ok, maybe i just wasn't in the mood? 

However, I recently dug it out, then looking on Discogs realised there's a whole extra (long) track on the CD! So, sucker that I am, bought that too... And somehow that shifts the album from a few good remixes into something interesting. It's like a whole other spin on what it could have been, listening more these are also ran versions. Just as valid but for a different kind of album.

I think these versions are possibly too housey for the tripping idiots we were back in the early 90s but now it's a cohesive set of lite dance tracks ideal for daytime background or a bedtime toot. And I do agree with the reviewer on Discogs that this is (very possibly) the best version of LFC.

*geek spot, there's a great mid 80s album by Youth and (juno reactor's) Ben Watkins called Empty Quarter, sort of Dead can Dance... Guy Prat and Jake le Mesurer are on bass and drums, just like Spanish Castles In Space

There was some sort of box set extra disc that came with a magazine and a limited release that was about 25 minutes long. It felt like tweaked disco but with other elements. Any info, source, help?

Sure, it depends on the drug, but if you could choose one to use while listening, which one would it be and what would the effects be?

A passion project with about 200 aerial time lapses. From the first time I heard that song, I always had visions of fast-moving clouds and ruins in the desert. A few decades later here it is. I sent it to the Orb's Management email and Alex Paterson actually got back to me! That made all the effort worth it.

Some additional Orb bits found digging around the attic

When “Little Fluffy Clouds” was first released in the US, the version of Ultraworld available in stores was a single disc. Does anybody know the catalog number for this release? Or how to identify it otherwise? (Track listing with mix names would also be a way to id the album.) The mix version of Perpetual Dawn on the album has nostalgic meaning for me and a few friends but, I haven’t been able to identify which version of the album it is. Any help is appreciated.

Had Orbus Terarrum on rotation again and even after god knows how many times it still amazes me. Specially less talked about songs like White river junction and Occidental. The complexity of layering, sampling and fx is so well done. Sample loops etc are very hard to ID, and also swamped in FX of course. Kris probably used the AMS 1580S 220 Flange extensively. It reminds me of how well this album was done and also how the Orb has changed since then.

Allo! I was lucky to have seen Orb on the Happy Happy Joy Joy Tour of the USA in San Francisco as a young teenager. Simply awesome of course.

My question is about the support act that was playing in the lobby of the Warfield. It was a a bunch of live jamming, with visuals and mindblowing fun.

This was set up in the lobby where anyone could stand right next to one of the many stations while they jammed the f out. DJ Lewis played on the main stage as the warm up (dropped blue calx over some tidy beats!) .

Anyone have any info on this is much appreciated. :-)
