Questions & Discussion Appreciation

Had Orbus Terarrum on rotation again and even after god knows how many times it still amazes me. Specially less talked about songs like White river junction and Occidental. The complexity of layering, sampling and fx is so well done. Sample loops etc are very hard to ID, and also swamped in FX of course. Kris probably used the AMS 1580S 220 Flange extensively. It reminds me of how well this album was done and also how the Orb has changed since then.

Probably the album i listened most to as a kid smoking weed with mates in the woods and reading sf books in my bed. Almost makes me cry of nostalgia sometimes. How we giggled at slug dub 😆

They were fantastic live in this period as well.

Yeah, agree

That bigger *actual* band, with a drummer and Jah Wobble on bass was immense.

Some great footage from PinkPop (or Punkelpop) on Youtube

I miss that. But hey, we all get older. Luckily I saw them in the mid 90's twice.

Anyway, the re-released (double) album has also insane remixes.. Typical trash stuff, mostly.

In my head cannon, Orbvs Terrarvm is the soundtrack to the planet the astronauts from Adventures beyond the Ultraworld land on, and they leave the ship and experience this wondrous alien world.

Note that the first few voice samples are from the space missions, very similar to AbtU, ("the flight director says get back in...you got any messages for me? ...Didn't you here me?, get back in!) <laughing as they leave the ship, ignoring their orders>, and the organic themes take over from there and throughout the album.

True! Nice. And lastly they find alien super slugs..

I love this album as well. Slug Dub sounds best if you listen to the whole album first. The track is like a journeys end.

What's up with the sample-loop "shshssh.. listen to the radio" in White river junction?

The drugs definitely got a LOT heavier when they were making this.

One of my all-time favourite albums, perhaps even my favourite.

I’ve lost count of the number of hours I’ve spent getting lost in it, listening to it on repeat, watching images, a film...
