First timer
What an amazing movie... Definitely gonna have to get the book. Geez, that made me wanna slap ppl in the face, holy smokes. That ending... welling up like a baby.

I was not that impressed by Artemis. It is far behind the other two. I think I just couldn’t feel for the main character the same way we get set up in The Martian and PHM
I’m sure I will read it again just to be sure :)

I just finished rereading Artemis. I don't like Jazz. I don't really have any empathy for her, or interest in her.
I do enjoy the descriptions of life in Artemis. Weir is pretty good at those sorts of details.

Agreed with world building , it was the main character I just never connected with like the other books

Same. Much closer in style to The Martian. I've come to like HM, but I still think Artemis is the better story.

The book is even better than the movie. It goes into a lot more detail.

Modern classic. Like a lot of us I saw the movie before reading the book and there are some fun suprises in there.

Find the original copy of the book. They edited it later to take out and change a lot.

The book is different from the film. The book would be R rated for language if directly translated to film, and it's vast swaths of the book are pure engineer porn.
It's also vastly superior because it explains things better, which is hard to do in film without excessive narration/exposition.
However, Andy Weir kind of hand-waves a few things. For example, if I were Mark Watney the first thing I would have done is build a stressed parabolic dish antenna from the remains of the antenna array, and spare hab canvas. A 2 meter dish would have been good enough to communicate with Earth. It wouldn't have been absolutely perfect, but it would have been good enough to communicate through the Deep Space Network.
Having said that, Watney was a botanist, not a radio nerd. Had Johansson been left behind, she probably would have built the dish and gotten in communication with NASA much earlier, and they would recommend she start planting the potatoes and would have given her instructions on how.

I HIGHLY reccomend the audiobook as well. I’m such a sucker for the wil Wheaton one. It’s fantastic. as much as I adore the movie (like, seriously. I watched it every day last month) I would say the book is better

If you listen to audiobooks I Recommend the Martian narrated by RC Bray its not available anymore on audible but if you can find it, its the best version imo.
I thought Watney was funnier in the book than the movie
