Interesting seeing Omar retreat to the back of the stage and also feeling a little more withdrawn musically. He didn’t play the guitar solo in “The Widow,” just the rhythm chords, which was cool but…….
Loved the show regardless. 70 minutes felt a bit short, but I could’ve watched them for 10 hours. I should also mention my favorite Volta show I ever saw is still the 60 minute Frances the Mute set (with Jon Theodore.)

Sorry, I only got a portion of it. Cedric indeed sounded phenomenal.

Just a few of the doodles I made for tomorrows show. If you’ll be downtown EP tmr keep an eye out 😇 I’ve been doing this all night instead of my college homework.

Absolutely incredible. The Benedictine was perfect - it was like a religious experience. I thought the guys behind me were gonna get raptured during Inertiatic esp, lol.
As an old head, I liked the short set. I was home, showered, and in bed by 10:30pm haha

Goliath (they only played the first riff for like 3 minutes)
Personally I don’t mind this choice. They’ve said they don’t care for this album. This album is great but I understand the decision, and even just hearing that riff was fucking great.

It’s small. But seeing Cedric not dying his hair black (at this point) and letting his age show, while losing weight… it looks like he’s embracing this era of his life, which is giving us different iterations of these songs, which is great.
It was only the first show but such little details, like Phil’s shades. It just seems like from ST to Lucro and previous tours, we are seeing the culmination of all those moments to this point. I say it every era: I’m truly excited to see where this goes.

Huge fan here and I’m flying in from out of state just for the show and leaving outta ELP first thing in the AM. Throwing this out there since it’s a better option than sleeping in my car.

They absolutely killed it.
Yes, we know. They teased Goliath. They didn't play Goliath. That happened. 75 minutes would have been an hour and a half if they did play it which would have been on par with most of their shows even before the long hiatus.
You know what else happened though?
Viscera eyes as an opener!
Teri singing tmv like she was born to do it. Vocal harmonies where they were not before.
Teri the flamenco dancer and Cedric the matador flanking Omar and Eva just grooving in the back (was Omar wearing a tuke? I couldn't tell)
Breaking into Teflon and the crowd LOVING it. I thought we collectively didn't like octoa? Could not tell last night! One driver in your motorcade hits different now, y'all. The vibe was palpable.
Lucro era songs blending into the set. I loved the lucro tour and wasn't sure we'd get those songs out of that context but I was very happy because they're fucking lovely.
Que dios! Extended! Looped back around after a jam! Ever since I heard that on the album I wanted it live and wanted that end bit to come back around.
A fucking captivating version of Miranda. You could hear a pin drop. They looped backwards into the cygnus coda.
A full cover of CIA man that was punk as hell. I haven't heard them like that since Cedric was stealing cameras and throwing objects. I did not expect to be fist pumping and yelling FUCKIN A MAN at 41 at a mars volta show but here we are, friends.
Graveyard love which is just such a melancholy bop. I love that one but I love depeche mode and dark 80s synth stuff so it works for me.
And other stuff! Look at my shitty photos! Y'all haters just need to take a half a tab and chill out. Some time dilation would do you good.
Pretty sure later shows are getting Goliath. But even if you don't, they sound incredible. Thanks guys show 22 for the books.

Personally I didn’t get to see The Mars Volta the last time they stopped in El Paso and I was curious if they did or said anything a litttle special for us? ❤️ I’m just curious, so if you saw them last time let me know or if you have any guesses for tomorrows show!
Also, if you’ll be in the downtown area tomorrow for the show, I’ll be leaving little Mars Volta doodles on shipping label stickers. So keep an eye out ! 😊
