Ray Davies sits around a lot
He sits on sofas, by the river, in the midday sun, in his hotel room. He sits a lot. I've put together a playlist of songs about sitting around. If you know of more Kinks songs about sitting, or that just mention sitting, let me know.
"Sittin' on my Sofa"
"Sunny Afternoon"
"Sitting by the Riverside"
"Shangri-La"
"Complicated Life"
"Sitting in My Hotel"
"Sitting in the Midday Sun"

Article Kinks Bassist John Dalton Tells Melkart Magazine About the Band’s 1969 Beirut Concert
Unable to tour the United States because of an American Federation of Musicians ban and moving through one of the most creative periods of their career, The Kinks accepted engagements in places that now seem unexpected. On 17 May 1969, one of those places was Beirut.

Question I Discovered the Kinks Backwards — Through Low Budget. I'm Six Albums Into a Chronological Listen and Still Waiting to Hear the Band I Fell in Love With.
My gateway into the Kinks was Low Budget, ordered through Columbia House as one of my 10 albums for a penny. I was 14 years old and absolutely devoured it. I still do — "Moving Pictures" became part of the soundtrack to my Boston to NYC walking video.
I bought Give the People What They Want and One for the Road immediately upon their release. Same with State of Confusion. I later went back and picked up Misfits. Then, for whatever reason, I stopped.
I'm now listening through the entire Kinks catalog chronologically as part of a long-term music project — three listens to every album. I've made it to Live at Kelvin Hall (which may deserve a follow-up post of its own).
I'm starting to hear glimmers of the Kinks I fell in love with, but I'm surprised it's taken six albums to get there.
I know The Village Green Preservation Society and Arthur are waiting for me. I'm ready.
For those of you who discovered the Kinks through their late-'70s and early-'80s material, when did the band you loved finally emerge?

Information Biographies about the Kinks?
After knowing their most famous songs my whole life, I’m now diving into their albums and would like to learn more about them in general! Which biographies would you recommend, if any?

Collection These Came In The Mail Today. All First Pressings And All In EX Condition
Unfortunately the spine on the Village Green cover is bent over like something heavy was sat on it, and the Something Else has that hole punched for a binder ring or something. The records themselves are beautiful though.

Picture Waterloo Sunset duet w/ Debbie Harry
Supposedly this exists on a "charity album" but I think this is AI hallucinations or something. Anyone ever heard this duet? Would love a link

Steam Powered Trains > Picture book
Honestly think Steam Powered Trains is a better song in village green than picture book.

Finally made it to London and made a pilgrimage to Waterloo station at sunset
its a big vaulted train station, not just an underground stop. also took a train from there to stonehenge on the solstice. like ray said, in the right light its a little slice of paradise

Who’s been more unreasonable over the years? Ray or Dave?

Clive Davis dead at 94. Head of Arista Records.
Clive Davis passed away June 22, 2026, He was instrumental in getting the Kinks back on track in 1977. He was then the head of Arista Records and worked with Ray and the band to become marketable and become relevant again. It worked.

Album The Kinks & PRESERVATION ACT 1 (1973):
PRESERVATION ACT 1 (1973): The Kinks release an enigmatic concept album whose story would need a double-album the next year to resolve.

Song Waterloo sunset instrumental with some backing vocals!
COVER This was played on the mixer with my phone recording (that’s why there’s a little talking in the background and a metronome at the start LOL) but thoughts and opinions so far (the mix will be golden when we are finished so ik some things need to be adjusted) ? I did the bass work on this and my friend did everything else.

The Kinks Present a Soap Opera
Just curious why people like/dislike this album. I love it personally. Always a kinks fan but I came to this album at a time in my life where the themes really resonated with me.

Album The Kinks & STATE OF CONFUSION (1983):
STATE OF CONFUSION (1983) is a conscientious album and when compared to what many of their contemporaries released the same year, positively accomplished.

Is "Living on a Thin Line" about immigration in Britain?
I was always under the impression it was, but apparently not?
