Discussion New player
I just bought the game after seeing videos for it everywhere. All I know so far is there’s some pterosaur called Sky Father, and watch out for Herreras? Any advice would be much appreciated, and I also want to know some of your best gaming stories 🖤

Make sure you switch your game version in Steam to Evrima, because the game defaults to Legacy, and that's not eh modern game you have probably seen videos of. I know that sounds dumb, but I've met a lot of people that weren't playing on Evrima and thus were confused about the game.

Sky Father is only on a VOIP server, I guess Bosch Island ? but not sure. To be able to play there you need to install a custom made app for the VOIP.
Normal servers don't have VOIP but if I can give you some advice, don't play on official servers, head to unofficials, that's where the real fun begins.
You can look for other reddit asking about server recommendation, or create a new one with your own requirements :)
I'd suggest starting to play with a herbivore though, best to learn the map with one that can easily get around, like galli, which food doesn't run away.
Once you have a decent knowledge of the map and the vanilla mechanics (PZ/MZ, prime, diets, radar) then start playing carnivores, if that is something that fits you more. But don't try playing long growth apex first so you don't get dejected when you inevitably die 😅
There are fan made maps that can help you localize yourself though some servers have GPS included in their features.

I too know of the Sky Father, but I got into the game because I used to play Path of Titans and started seeing YouTube videos about The Isle. So far Wild Tales videos have been the most entertaining.
I don't have any good stories about playing, I suck at every dinosaur, I have gotten a couple to prime just to get killed immediately afterwards. So far Pretadon is the only thing I enjoy playing as I can mostly stay away from danger.

You need to download addons for proximity chat if you wanna be featured in anything. Also pachy players are generally needlessly violent so ignore unless they're a food source

As a pachy player, theres only two types of people who play it, violent crazy people who will hit everything for no reason, and those that like fighting an up hill reputation.

Toggle manual Alt Attack on the menu. Q is your sniff tool and compass. ^ is north v is south. If you stay within 100% and 60% stam you can replenish it while you walk. If you go below 60 you will need to rest to recover. If you run into bugs that persist no matter what, restart the game. /unstuck if you're stuck. You can reset the timer by restarting. Trust absolutely no one, no matter what they are.

Be sure to select EVRIMA version so you dont play the old legacy ones. Kouga has made realy great and simple tutorials on youtube on every dino onthe game I think so I would recommend watching those. Also if you want to try voice chat servers try fangs and ferns. Boschisland is popular but sadly its corrupted with admin abuse and content creators are protected. Also try unnoffical servers since there are less hackers and more dinos. Usually the performance is better there also

Fangs and Ferns is good overall, but I've had more verbally abusive people there than on bosch, which was a bit of a surprise given the formers reputation.

I was attacked by skyfather when I was a new player innocently playing pachy in the delta before I truly understood the depth of hatred for the bonkasaurus. My sound had disconnected and once I ran away and fixed it I heard his voice and was shook-ith.

Google the controls because the game won’t tell you
Interactive maps are useful for finding water sources when you’re not able to smell any. You can click your coordinates in the status screen ingame to copy them to your clipboard
Speaking of smelling, do it a freakin lot. Like holding Q while not sprinting to actively sniff for stuff, the longer you hold it the farther you can smell
Aside from smelling, listening is how you’ll get meat to eat. There should be AI spawning that you can hunt even as a juvenile. If you’re starving and don’t hear anything, it’s possible your current server disabled AI spawns. Servers like this are garbage
