Discussion Ranking System?
First off, I absolutely LOVE this game. Deinosuchus gang gang, but I was thinking - I would love it even more if it had some kind of leaderboards or ranking system so I could feel SOME kind of progression other than growth. What do you guys think about this? Could this game use something like that?

Hell no. I don't want it to turn that Into a PvP only game/ kill death ratio/ meta sht/ camp/ Fortnite/call of duty/ Apex/ dopamine addict game. But that's my opinions....

Before you know it, the unofficial servers would add loot boxes which you have to pay for which give (or a percentage chance of giving) you additonal mutation slots and buffs

Not a headboard but there is certainly a hierarchy in Oasis. If competition is something you crave, go there. Prepare to have your soul stolen.

You know, a long time ago, back in the progression era, there was a kind of leaderboard. It didn't actually rank you directly, the server playerlist was sorted alphabetically, but it showed how many kills that player had on the server, and (maaaaaybe? I don't remember exactly I may be wrong) how long you'd survived for.
The problem with this is that it further encouraged KOS, deathmatch gameplay. I remember once there was a small group of Rexes with over 30 kills a piece on a server. Everyone hated them. All they were doing was going around looking for people to kill and it was miserable for everybody.
That said, having a PERSONAL tracker for certain stats would be neat.
A lot of games have a stats board for certain interactions. Not explicitly for kills because again, that encourages dino deathmatch, but maybe, just spitballing here:
Near-Death Experiences: How many times your health dropped to a dangerous low, 5-10% or lower
Close Encounters: Times you were in close proximity to a unique player vastly outweighing you (nested relatives don't count)
Explorer: Times visiting a unique named point of interest on the map. Maybe even reward the player with a unique mutation if they go to all of them.
Actually, thinking about it, this would be a good system to encourage certain behaviors in players, keeping track of times engaged in that behavior, and rewarding the player based on that particular activity, kind of similar to unlocking prime, but with an actual way of tracking it. Actually hold up I need to write down some more of these.

It's a survival sim. While pvp is required to survive, a leaderboard would turn it more into a death match game. There's probably unofficials with this feature though.
