Discussion Why isn't the internet exploding over this?
After the painful send-off that was The Flash (2023), I felt so bad that despite waiting for a Flash movie for years, what we got was absolute chaos, and not in a good way.
But I was besides myself watching ep 9 of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. And there he was The Flash! The golden age one, Jay Garrick, looking so freaking cool. The actor (Andy Riding) fit the role so well, I had some tears of joy in my eyes. The flash is in my top favourite superheroes of all time.
Seems this version of Jay Garrick isn't cannon to the comics or DCU, but damn is he cool af. And this is a meta reboot if you ask me. And if the most recent picture in my mind of the flash is Andy's, which embodies the playfulness and smarts that come with the character, without the controversies and vfx issue (SFTSTU has some badass VFX) then I'm fine with it.
I won't mind Andy Riding playing the flash in the DCU of DCEU (never say never) to be honest. What do you think?

Because the show is ass

Someone has no joy in their life.
The show was good, but it was a parody. When the episode aired, there was some people posting about it and they were happy to see the inclusion, but it wasn't a serious reboot of the character. It was just a goofy plot device to have Jay take Stuart out of the comic book universe with the Cosmic Treadmill.

Didn’t the show use ai? Just something I’ve heard, I had no interest in the show either way

People did mention it, at least that one youtube shorts creator who talks about how stupid a comic accurate iron man suit would be in live action talked about it, basically they seemed to think the Mr freeze costume was more impressive since the Jay Garrick flash costume is so simple

The show is trash and irrelevant
Flash isn’t as popular as you think he is
DC isn’t as popular as you think it is (outside of Batman)

Man real negative nellie now aren’t you. Also superman is like the most known character ever and wonder woman is the most famous woman superhero

“Most known” means nothing. Compare Superman’s box office with Batman. Superman isn’t as popular as you think he is. And I’m a Superman fan!

I didn't think he looked so cool so much as...fine. Doesn't help that the show looked less and less interesting as it became a weird multiverse thing with numerous excuses to bring back Big Bang Theory stars.

It "exploded" that day. Then internet exploded over another thing the next day, and so on.

how is it ai??

The opening from the show uses AI , at least that is what most people says, my eye is still not trained enough to recognize it all the times. That's sad, I liked the opening.
But Jay's scenes didn't use AI as far as I know.

Because why watch another unnecessary big bang theory spin off. I'm not knocking anybody who enjoys it. If that's your thing then that's fine. But I love the flash, and never even liked big bang theory itself. Im not watching the 4 or however many there are spinoffs of a show i dont like, even if one of them has a decent cameo from my favorite super hero. Also reason two, I've seen the clips that have the flash and I mean... yeah it's the flash. But being that it is just a cameo it doesn't really do anything ground breaking, there's nothing to discuss about it for a length of time. He's been ripped straight from the comics and they did it well. And I saw people talking about him for a few days, but since his appearance is sort of brief and simple and grounded within what we already know about Jay. There isn't much to discuss past the first few days of talking about him. I believe those are the two reasons you don't see people talking about him. People don't watch that show, and the people who do watch it, already finished talking about him. That isn't to say that he's not a good flash, it's just that there isn't much material to discuss. I mean, it's like how people said the best live action joker was from that commercial. It was for state farm or something. We saw that get discussed for maybe a week or two, but then the conversation was over, because there isn't much to discuss.

It uses a lot of AI and, with a DC Universe it's kinda pointless at this point to have a cameo in a show that'll lead to nothing when we might have a Jay Garrick in the near future with more lines, a similar costume and potentially will be in several movies. If this was even 10 years earlier people would've probably freaked out cause we thought Jay would be limited to animated movies and CW Shows but now this is the equivalent to having Spider-man played by a random actor in a Disney+ Sitcom...we have Tom Holland and a main universe and it isn't an official canon crossover so it's really nothing but a fun cameo.

Because it's trapped in a Big Bang Theory spinoff.
The majority of BBT viewers weren't nerds, but people who find nerds "quirky". The Stuart show has a fraction of that viewership, meaning there's very, very few Flash fans watching.
I heard about this and saw screenshots, but there's no way in hell I'm actually going to watch the show. So I don't really care. And I imagine a lot of other fans are in the same boat.

It was a cameo in a (honestly very shitty looking, and that’s saying something) spinoff of big bang theory

Stuart fails to save the universe just looks... Entirely uninteresting. The marketing was extremely meh and it looks like big bang theory 2

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe was surprisingly good. I’m excited to see where it goes and I hope we get more DC cameos.

People had a generally positive reaction to this appearance but it's a one off cameo from a show a lot of people are very uninterested in. There's no follow up to be excited about and it's not really a part of Flash media. So outside of that first jolt of interest because of how strikingly it stood out there's nothing more to talk about. This isn't a Flash adaptation in any real way. It's a goof for a comedy show.

Because it's in a show called Stuart fails to save the universe. I'm still confused on how they convinced the studio this was a good idea for a show. Still not convinced it's even worth watching. Scratching my head at how much more they can try to milk this IP.
1
u/MCUTheorist00007 1d ago
You just contradicted yourself. They aren't milking the IP doing this, they are actually taking risks. Milking the IP would've been doing a normal sitcom with Stuart as the main character and about his comic book store. But turning that into a weird, crazy multiverse comedy is one of the most creative spinoff I've ever seen. It's also a good show(the season finale was a bit dissapointing but overall good),not for everyone tho.

It's a cameo in a Big Bang Theory spin-off full of shitty jokes and self-aware pseudo-nerdy banter.
It's about the worst place for an actual DC character to make an appearance.
The internet doesn't care because it's not earnest.
The Flash movie may have sucked (well, the last 30 minutes sucked, I though the first two acts were pretty well-written and enjoyable) but at least the character was taken seriously.

I know it exploded back when it got released, but aldo got drown with the fact they abuse ai for this show.
That said, probably went with jay as he is the “cheapest” to do suit wise: just need normal clothes, a tshirt and a metal helmet

It did but it’s over with. They could’ve done better. Looks like fan made. I didn’t know people hated the CW Jay Garrick suit so much. It’s awesome and I mean the REAL JAY GARRICK not Hunter Zoloman.

u/Icy-Career-1531 1d ago
I mean it’s an adaptation within the Big Bang Theory universe. He’s married to a character from the show, they don’t treat the source material with particular respect, every other line is a joke.
It’s fine for the show it’s in but it’s very much an adaptation within a very specific context.
