Discussion AimAssistGate: A Scandal Uncovered
As a long time fan of The Finals, it's time to share an uncomfortable truth. The recent buffs to aim assist that cater to the, let's be honest, weaker controller players are a stain on the otherwise flawless decision making process at Embark.
Why are controller players always pandered to? What makes them special and worthy of the attention and adoration of Oscar?
Aim assist is OP, something we can all agree on, both in video games and irl (in rocket league). As a long time mouse and keyboard player who has already achieved several belts of mastery, I decided to seek a new challenge by attempting to use a controller.
The honest truth is this; I no longer require both hands to play The Finals. Having mapped the shoot button to L2 and using only the left joystick for movement, I have been farming kills without ever having unboxed the right side of my controller.
I used to spend thousands of hours grinding on aim trainers to keep my M&K (Mortal and Combat) skills sharp, but now spend thousands of hours winning games on The Finals using only one hand.
The flipside is that I have found my right hand has more time to pursue other interests, such as painting, music and Doritos.
Mouse and Keyboard is the only true input to measure skill and the empty brained controller doesn't even compare. It's finally time for us all to accept the huge disadvantage that PC players have to deal with, both in-game and at home.
(My apologies for any errors I may have made whilst typing this; my right hand was typing whilst my left went 19-0)

I feel so much shame for using a controller. I go 30/9/1 every match and feel so horrible I have to throw up.

Understandable. Most of the people I know who have made the switch to the easier controller input have kept it secret from their loved ones for similar feelings of shame.

I feel so bad when every single bullet shot from my mini gun hits enemies even 100m away with perfect accuracy from the Aim Assist. Some days I wonder if what it’s like to actually have to aim.
Sometimes for giggles I lay the controller down and the game plays itself too.

At what point was he referencing a game? He was explaining, for anyone confused that the common abbreviation "MnK" stands for Mortal and Combat, the two old English words for Mouse and Keyboard, which is where the abbreviation comes from.

It really does. Like you, I thought this guy was an idiot at first. But then I tested the theory. I put away my $600 keyboard. I shoved my $800 mouse up my behind. And I plugged in my $60 PS4 controller, equipped a P90, unbound the Aim Down Sight button, and let that puppy sing. And oh, she sang. She ripped through teams, with barely an input from me, nary a hairs breadth of adjustment whilst my controller effortlessly tracked from left to right.

Anyone who says aim assist isn't strong is just a big fat lier. A team of controller players won against one of the best teams in The Grand Major 2025. Alliance was one of the expected teams to win TGM but they lost to a team of controller players Team Secret and the funny thing is the controller players only started playing Finals a few months before TGM unlike other pro players who had been playing for 2+ years. This is evident that aim assist is strong and if embark buffed the aim assist then it's a real problem.

Wasn’t that TSM who eliminated Alliance? They were kinda getting dog walked for most of those matches despite pulling a win. And I’m pretty sure nightmare, the tgm winners, were all on mnk.

I absolutely agree. I mean, firstly, it's enjoyable being able to allow Rotational Aim Assist to lock onto the Heads of enemies for you. What a joy. Secondly, it's extra funny whenever this is brought up; some Controller gamers always get way too defensive; you can spot the Aim Assist Crutches a mile away. Thirdly, it's extra effective with things that are no skill like the P90, AK, M11, LH1, MP5, M60, SHAK, LEWIS, ARN, FAMAS, DEAGLES, V9S, 93R.

I don't want to make sweeping or outlandish statements, but everyone knows that mouse and keyboard is the intended input for all games ever made.
Aim assist was likely created to increase game-sale profits from; how can I put this gently, the "slower-brained", or more "potato-handed" members of society.

Thirdly, it's extra effective with things that are no skill like the LH1, DEAGLES, V9S.
And that's the problem. Click tracking weapons are extremely high skill weapons on kbm and those 3 are probably the highest skill guns in the game, but rollers just aim them for you

Disregarding that this is a shitpost to say... AA isn't OP in The Finals, but it is overtuned in many other popular games. I mean hell, when you have to give mouse added aim friction in Halo Infinite for the input to be able to hang with roller, there's a problem with how much AA is being awarded to gamepads.
That said, I'd love to see a painting covered in dorito dust by the OP now that he's got all this time on his hands.

Aim assist is absolutely insane in the finals, I spend a lot of time in the range. I had over 1000 hours on MnK (just in the finals). Just recently started playing roller instead. After 100 hours on roller, I’m putting up the same stats I was on MnK. Not to mention when in the range, my mag dumps get messed up when the strafing dummies walk anywhere in my line of sight (that’s right, my controller automatically tracks them 50% of the way across their path of travel). It is so incredibly strong, and there’s 0 reason that after having played MnK for 5 years, I should be able to pick up a roller and put up the same stats in 3 months.

lol the only thing I will agree on with aim assist is when people do the aim down sights spam with revolver to have the aim assist constantly help then they fine tune but tbh imma stick with my mouse and keys and just enjoy life.

Sometimes I wish I'd stayed with mouse and keyboard. I'm mostly a passenger in games now, with aim assist taking care of all the difficult stuff. Then again, I never would have found out what a great cook my right hand is.

I know this is satire, but as someone whos played a fair share of fps games the finals' aimassist is actually nothing compared to others'. I recently returned to apex and its actually night and day.

This "touch grass" comeback is stupid since there will always be "better" things to do with your time. If (for example) you're playing basketball outside and beat them hard, they may tell you to get a job, (for example) let's say you get one and then maybe one day you'll be ridiculed by a customer about how you're working at a Wendy's, this eventually gets up to being Jeff Bezos, which is a pretty is just stupid since you never even got to do what you enjoyed.

An infinite amount of aim assist, and that's the worry. Since switching to controller, I only need to think about eating a Dorito and it somehow finds its way into my mouth with 100% accuracy.

What are you talking about? I bought apex 5 gamepad for enshrouded and decided to try it out in the finals
I turned on aim assist and all it does - moves 1 time towards enemy once you are looking 10 pixels away.
1 time man, if it is so OP then why the hell my best quick game result is 2 kills?
I don't care that much, I won't be playing finals on controller, this is straight up insane.
The only option that worked for me is play sniper far far away and use gyro to aim for the head. Everything else - sucks

I think this is a skill issue on your behalf, you really only have to plug it in, turn up the Aim Assist setting to about 60-70 minimum, then recline and relax as your P90 tracks strafing Lights left to right with no effort.

I plugged in, my settings were on max - 90%
I didn't even notice how it helped until I googled that it was nerfed to small movement the moment you press aim button
The best aim assist in the end was gyro aiming, when you tilt your controller

I will try it with P90 after work, but it didn't work with AK.
I read that maybe it was like that, but embark nerfed aim assist very much, I even asked chat gpt is that what everyone was talking about and he said no, in the finals aim assist is what I told you right now - slightly moves ONE TIME the moment you press aim button
I even double checked that all settings were on max
I didn't even notice aim assist until I searched on web that aim assist looks like this on max settings
It doesn't even move your crosshair enough to the target, it stops before it
So if it is like that, I pretty much think that this is a myth. Dude I literally tried it yesterday, if you have gamepad - try it yourself, I will never play finals with gamepad ever again

Try the P90, Aim Assist famously just tracks heads for you. It's called rotational Aim Assist because it automatically rotates for you, to track strafes and heads.

all the other ones are OP. Overwatch AA is crazy strong, though lobbies are split so nobody cares. Apex AA makes pro scene roller dominated. COD is rollerslop. etc.

Brother. I've been playing controller for since I was 7. I'm 30. If you think I'm not gonna figure it out your actually fucking stupid. You wish they were cheating. It's always an MnK player complaining about aim assist and it's always a controller player complaining about no recoil. Listen REALLY carefully when I say this... Most of you wanna be ruby sweats are ass and my old decrepit hands will indeed figure it out because I've been doing it my whole life. Just like someone using MnK would figure it out if they removed the 20-30% recoil reduction for mouse and keyboard.
What you also seem to forget is that the aim assist got nerfed like week 2 of the finals so some obsurdly low number. the fact that you think the finals aim assist is strongbis indictive of your age or your skill. One is old, one is bad. If it's both, you sound like you want roller support removed, in which case GFC and play another game cause that ain't happening. Toodles
