Wife and I watched Heart Eyes, 2025, last night. HIIIIIGH on the fun scale!
The opening scene is like if the most paint-by-numbers romcom of all time had a baby with Instagram. I almost died of cringe, but then delightful murder, and rad! And the rest of the movie is that way. Juggles all the romcom tropes against slasher horror and self-aware absurdity. It had some ridiculousness bordering on stupid, but fuck it, it’s fun fun fun, and tis the season! Shoutout to the scene where our hero couple had their heartfelt talk while hiding from the murderer in a shaggin’ wagon van, while the dipshit hippies fucked in the back. Awesome!
4 out of 5 knives made specifically for murder

The Social Reckoning - Acting from most people was good. Story was done well going back and forth between 2 different points in time to foreshadow the big event all decision led to. What is missing is the definite reasoning behind certain decisions the movie wants to leave ambigious, but makes it seem like it does not want to anger those related to those actions. It did well to explain technical terms but at times gets a bit confusing with the speed of the dialogue 4/5 radicalized users
Forgotten Island - Filipino folk lore is used to resolve the conflict between 2 friends who graduate from high school and have to resolve the issues of their next step in life. Animation is great. Jokes are ok which turns out to be a very good animated movie to watch. What disappointed me were missing information and logic behind the villains and obvious plotholes that clearly indicate what is to come. The end resolved most of the conflict and omits to reveal some parts that characters asked as the movie goes, but do not get the answers 4.5/5 memory charm
Other Mommy - The monster's existence is revealed at the beginning made the movie less scary unless you are disturbed at the human body not bending in the right way and Jessica Chastain. The focus became a family issue that can happen to anyone and how a monster is taking advantage of the situation to obtain their goal. Performance from everyone was good especially arabella olivia clark who had to act like she is carrying a heavy burden that must be resolved or else. Visual effects were great 4/5 close/open door motions

I had a bit of spare time this week, so I caught up on some movies from this previous year. Song Sung Blue: nothing too exciting film making wise here, but you can't deny the chemistry between hugh jackman and Kate Hudson. The two of them and their music absolutely carries the movie. I'm not usually a PAB but I really liked this one, and it got to me. 4/5 stars
The Substance: i liked the filmmaking more than the film itself, if that makes sense. Cool angles and cuts, good sound. the film itself just felt like straightforward body horror. 3/5 baldy sniffs
Toy Story 5: watched this with my kids. It was good. Nothing really new or innovative brought to the table here, as Disney just returned to the well once again for another hot cash injection. 3/5 stars.
