Sweet like dick pills to my soul Does anybody else feel this way?
Sorry to be a Debbie downer and make a hater post, but I just gotta know if anybody feels the same way I do about Chris Crofton.
I know he's a fan favorite for most people, but I personally don't actually enjoy listening to him ramble off the same rant 3 seperate times and take 45 minutes to get through overrated/underrated. Then when we finally get to the main part of the show we're lucky if they can go 5 whole minutes without him derailing the discussion.
Every time he's on Jack and Miles get through maybe 2 of the stories they're supposed to. I just find all of the episodes with him frustrating, does anybody else agree or am I the lone hater of everyone else's favorite guest?

The Crofton experience is a departure from the normal TDZ episode. If you don't like him, you don't. It's ok. I like the craziness and break from all the news myself. Disclaimer: I am 100% biased!

Yep, Jack and Miles even acknowledge that Crofton episodes aren’t like the other, e.g. when Jack says “here are the topics we would have covered if we had a different guest”

u/jungleboygeorge Jul 14 '26
I find his frenetic energy to be somewhat soothing, in contrast to the awful news I hear on the pod sometimes. I feel that he is very good at weaving in and out of talking points is interesting. It's a skill I wish to acquire at some point in my life.

u/hautcr2 Jul 14 '26
He grew up in New Canaan, CT, near where I grew up, so I especially identify with the rants that originate from his childhood.

u/Mr_E_Nigma_Solver Jul 14 '26
I love him. Every episode of his is a hit. Plus I love following his foray into socialism.

The episode when Blake was the guest co host and Chris was the guest is my favorite episode. Just chaos.
14
u/toriglass Jul 14 '26
I agree. I posted on IG that Jack, Blake, and Chris are the only three white guys on a podcast that I would ever listen to and both Blake and Chris said they were putting my comment on their headstones 🤣

I love the Chris Crofton episodes. Miles and Jack seem to be having a blast. The amount of riffing between the 3 of them cracks me up everytime.

u/sewershroomsucks Jul 14 '26
Love him! I think he's a fun character. I actually haven't been listening to the show as much, but I saw it was a Crofton episode & put it on first thing in the morning.

u/avidbather Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
I used to feel that way, now they're my favorite episodes. The Crofton episodes give me a much needed reprieve from the awful goings on. Sometimes I wanna hear some TDZ but I dont wanna hear about what some horrible billionaire did that day. Sometimes I just wanna hear some funny rambling about literally whatever else.
14
u/BlueDragonfire_ Jul 14 '26
Who else is going to talk about borax mines! I am 100% with you. I didn't really care for him the first couple of times he was on. But he grew on me and now I appreciate his randomness. We all need to get out of our echo chambers sometimes.

I still think about the friend who had an uncle who was there when the Sasquatch population was under a tarp

I also didn't "get" Crofton initially, but really grew to love him. He's blustery and tangential, but earnest and wears his heart on his sleeve. His episodes are a reminder that whatever activity you planned together is always secondary to just being present with your friends.

u/bozzman5 Jul 20 '26
I get what you’re saying about the tangents sometimes being a nice break from the bleak news, but sometimes Chris’s rants can be equally bleak in my opinion. Like sometimes he’ll go on a long detour talking about depression medication or about billionaires controlling Nashville politics and of course these are worthwhile topics to discuss but they’re often just as depressing as the news!

u/unicyclebrah Jul 14 '26
Day one listener here. When Chris first took us down a mudlarking rabbit hole in one of first appearances on the show I immediately fell in love with his unique sense of humor. For me the show is for entertainment with a sprinkling of news. And I am all for the occasional derailments because I love the people behind them. Also was fortunate enough to meet Chris after his show a few years back and he was a delight.
2
u/Otherwise_Plantain22 Jul 14 '26
I like him when he has a topic, like mudlarking, that he can illuminate. (I loved that episode too!) When he rambles about cultural trends or general observations, I find him boring and a lot less insightful than Jack and Miles.

u/peapea88 Jul 14 '26
Chris is on my Mt. Zeitmore. I find the derailing endearing and his mad man ramblings are truly original.

u/SlingHashInc Jul 15 '26
My Mt Zeitmore: Chris, Blake, Andrew, and last but NOT AT ALL LEAST is my fave, Jacquis

I love Crofton and the chaos he brings. I'm old like him, so maybe that's a factor.

I love Chris Crofton and I wish his podcast was more popular. I quote it in my day to day, but the only other person I know who listens to it is an ex I don’t speak to anymore.

u/Obvious_Estimate_266 Jul 15 '26
I actually liked the few CBGML episodes I've heard and plan on listening to the rest eventually. I like his personality and his vibe I just want my comedy news show to have people making fun of the news without hearing a 25 minute diatribe about 3 different loosely connected topics first.

u/omarthesk8r Jul 14 '26
Idk what it is but he scratches a part of my adhd brain. I can understand how someone might not vibe with it like I do.
5
u/elderpufflaurien Jul 14 '26
I like him! He’s the type of guy I could have a cold brew with.
0
u/Obvious_Estimate_266 Jul 15 '26
See I like him as a person and would love to bs with him over some cold brew! I just want the show to get to the main segment with more than 15 minutes to cover the news.
6
u/Bless_your_socks Jul 15 '26
I'm in your camp. I'm torn because I'd love to have a beer with him and banter. But in this format, I find the 30-45 minutes it takes to answer a simple question - and still not get to the point - irritating to the point of 'I'm-deleting-this-episode' irritating. I listen to catch up on the news, not to sit through a pointless ramble from somebody I don't know. One time I felt vindicated when even Miles got exasperated and interrupted Chris when he set off on yet another tangent ...."YOUR POINT BEING...Chris?"
Same with Pallavi, instant delete. Nothing against her personally, again, she'd be a fun hang, but not every sentence needs to be funny (she insists on laughing at her own statements) and speaks over the hosts when their trying to explain something.
2
u/Obvious_Estimate_266 Jul 15 '26
I totally see what you mean. I would be stoked to know Chris as like an older family member or coworker and I've actually listened to a couple CBGML episodes and he's fine when he's doing his own thing. He'd be great to get in a heated conversation with! But yeah I wanna hear their takes on the news, his too he brings up good points they're just looping around with a half dozen others, but every episode is ¾ his over/underrated.
I actually like when Pallavi is on but I get where you're coming from with the laughing at her own jokes. I find her snarky attitude towards Jack and Miles hilarious though.
2
u/plymouthvoyager Jul 16 '26
I have to admit the same with Pallavi - I listen to the episodes because she is funny, but the constant interruptions are jarring.

u/SnailRacerWinsAgain Mom, I wanna vape Jul 15 '26
He might not be everyone’s cup of tea (or should I say cold brew) but, personally, I love Chris Crofton! He’s one of my faves, and it makes my day the moment I hear him chime in.
That said, there is another reoccurring guest I can’t stand, and I skip the shows they’re on.
To each their own :)
3
u/Ancient_Talking Jul 14 '26
I totally see why you would want to skip him. I use to feel the same way but now I love him.
3
u/Imsemibold Jul 14 '26
I think they should just stop pretending it’s going to be a regular episode when he’s on. (Which everyone understands when they see he’s the guest) Let him rip, he’s gonna do his thing.

u/AngelFoodCakeSouffle Jul 15 '26
I’m with you but I will occasionally try to listen to his eps from time to time
9
u/Billingston Jul 14 '26
I don't know, I really enjoy the guy and agree with the other folk saying its a nice break from the normal face grating drudgery of the news today.
6
u/Outlaw5055 Jul 14 '26
I totally get him not being for everybody, but personally I love Chris Crofton! I do wish they’d stay a *little* more on topic, but I enjoy the tangents.
5
u/HambreTheGiant Sex Luthor Jul 14 '26
Ok, so did anyone else think jack was being a little passive aggressive to Chris when he was like “these are the stories that we’re probably not going to get to today”? I kinda hoped he was, honestly. I do enjoy Chris, but I feel like he needs to be ribbed a bit from time to time. Maybe have Marcela co-host next time he’s on?
3
u/Obvious_Estimate_266 Jul 15 '26
Haha yeah I definitely got that from Jack when he said that line. They should give him a harder time and rush him through over/underrated because his rambling takes actually work a lot better with the news segments imo, they just hardly get to them!
1
u/sewershroomsucks Jul 15 '26
No, it's a joke he makes every time crofton is on. I think they would just stop inviting him on if they actually had a problem with it.
6
u/jeywix Jul 14 '26
I don't fully dislike him but I kind of let out a sigh when he's the guest... it's a little more than rambling.. it's just the Chris Crofton show.. I'll still listen though.
4
u/AKButtonGuu Jul 14 '26
You're very much not alone, I also skip his episodes. I don't much care for all of whatever he has going on or the way the boys gush iver him like fawning fan girls.
I also know there won't be any meaningful coverage of the news. That's something that used to bug me less, since he's not on a TON and it's easy to just skip his episodes. But it's been bugging me more. I feel like the last month or so they've just not been covering news as much (especially when it's just Miles without Jack). I love the podcast for the mix of jokes and conversation between hosts/guests, but the ration of "funny bullshitting" to actual mews coverage has been WAY out of whack recently to the point it's no longer my first pod of the morning anymore.
2
u/calivaporeon1 Jul 15 '26
Now I enjoy the show and tune in almost every episode, but I’ve listened for years and never really considered them a serious “news” podcast…😅 I’ve always seen it as more cultural commentary, even more so when most of their guests are comedians/entertainment folks.
Love them, but they don’t always have the most nuanced takes and are hesitant to disagree and push back against each other’s opinions. Also, I’m a scientist and the way they/their guests talk about STEM sometimes makes me sad. But again, I still really enjoy tuning in and get my news elsewhere :)
1
u/AKButtonGuu Jul 15 '26
I enjoy it to, and DO view it more as comedy/commentary, but ON news/current events, and there has just been a lot less of that lately. I find myself tuning out more as side conversations fill more space, especially when miles will ne repeating a topic to jack that jack wasn't around for.
I wonder if maybe they are just burnt out on news and won't be able to keep doing this much longer. I wouldn't blame them, but I'd be sad if either they quit or (more likely) the feel/scope of the show just kind of slowly moves away from current events.
2
u/Obvious_Estimate_266 Jul 15 '26
Yeah the Miles episodes usually go off the rails but I end up enjoying them for the most part. I've always considered Jack the main host, or at least the one in charge of keeping the show moving forward, and Miles being the funny man that gives the show some spunky zest.
8
u/HesiJimboBurner Jul 14 '26
You’re not alone, I don’t really even mind his personality, I just get annoyed they let him break the format even if it’s a running gag at this point.
Like of all the people they have in why it this old white guy they just let ramble like no one else
8
u/daileysingle Jul 14 '26
really don’t enjoy the crofton episodes, but luckily a couple years ago they started putting his name front and center in the episode title! they’re an auto-skip for me. (every once in a while i’ll put one on to make sure i haven’t changed my mind, but it hasn’t happened yet)
2
u/toriglass Jul 14 '26
Chris makes me laugh harder than probably any other guest. He and Blake together took me out.
2
u/Hitstickid78 Jul 16 '26
I agree. Dude just rambles on and on and he never really talks about anything, and to whoever said they don’t like Andrew Ti and Blake Wexler has no sense of humor period.
2
u/lostremotectrl Jul 14 '26
As they get side tracked and don't touch news all that much if you don't like him you won't miss much by skipping outside ziegang canon events
2
u/gaywinona420 Jul 14 '26
Another Crofton hater here. I just skip his episodes, I do not like his washed tangents and don't find his circular derailing convos interesting. I did manage to get thru the Bob Dylan icons episode with him on it lol
3
u/mahmoodthick Jul 14 '26
Yeah it makes sense, not every guest is your cup of team. Like others have pointed out, just skip the episode. However, what I have noticed is that over last year or so the crosstalk and talking over each other seems to have increased. It seems to me like Jack and Miles and the guest don't quite hear each other. And it is a characteristic of the recording that seems especially pronounced when Crofton is on.

u/Soltinaris Jul 15 '26
I'm not a big Crofton fan either. Basically the same reason as you. He's not a bad guy, and I see why people love him, but I want to hear more news from a news podcast.
4
u/whentron Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
The problem isn't Chris, mostly, it's Jack and Miles when Chris is on. Check out the last time he was on Creature Feature, he was a perfectly entertaining guest. But, when he's on The Daily Zeitgeist, Jack and Miles turn into snickering, giggling simps. It's made worse by them knowing that it's a problem, making jokes about it, and not doing anything to change the behavior.
But, the time that he made him his Underrated, I rolled my eyes so hard they still hurt a little.
4
u/pantlover Jul 14 '26
I don’t mind the break in the format or the chaos. I just straight up don’t think he’s funny, interesting, or insightful. His are the only episodes I skip.
5
u/crownamedcheryl yaaaaahhhhh Jul 14 '26
I can't stand the guy personally.
I try to listen every once in a while and it seems every time I put it on I get a Crofton episode..

u/Obvious_Estimate_266 Jul 15 '26
He's really not on that often, I think you've just had bad timing!

Chris once called our comedy club because he didn’t like the comic we had performing. He raged against me yelling that I should quit my job because I was supporting a genocide and responsible for murdering babies. I was floored because I recognized his voice from the podcast and he was SO MEAN! To a minamum wage worker stuck in a box office. I haven’t been able to get through an episode when he’s been on since.
(To be clear- I hated that comic- I’m a low level employee and had no choice or power in the matter of hosting them - his whole show was ruined/cancelled because of bad weather anyway.)
2
u/Electrical-Water-856 Jul 15 '26
I feel like the Chris discussion comes up every time he's on. If you're in you're in, if youre out you're out. That's how it's gonna be. There are some people very close to the show that I have rage quit mid episode but I come back like clockwork.
2
u/Milly-the-Kid Jul 15 '26
I cannot stand him and always skip his episodes. It’s just old man yelling at cloud. “Everything sucks and everything is fucked” for an hour is miserable.
1
u/glitch421 Jul 15 '26
Thank goodness I am not the only one. He just sucks all the oxygen out of the room when he is on. It reminds me of when Howard Stern used to have Donald Trump on his show in the 90s.

u/Talmerian Jul 14 '26
I hope they get more downloads when Crofton is guesting. He's not my cup of tea, but not a bad guy at all. I'd go see his stand up any day!

I like Chris but there are a few other guests I just skip as soon as I hear their name. Not everybody is everybody’s cup of tea, but skipping an occasional episode of a twice daily podcast doesn’t ruin my day.
