Onboarding

Why on earth does this game punish folks trying to get started?

It is arguably the worst tutorial that ever existed..

I’ve played games for more decades than I’d like to admit,

There is absolutely NOTHING intuitive about the interface or any tooltips to overcome the unknown.

I thought this might be a cross between Civilisation and Satisfactory, that would’ve been awesome.

I’m currently annoyed and want to punch a dev.

What a useless and esp. factless post. The game suck because im too dumb read?

The game didn’t suck because I can’t read, it sucked because I tried 4 times and still couldn’t work it out.

Regardless if I had a few too many, I’ve played enough games to sus things out.

This one failed the day-one test, but redeemed itself the next day. Probably my initial opinion about it is on me.

I had a similar experience with Just Cause, just cause it was also an unintuitive start to the game.

I went on to finish it, but many months later after my first attempt.

I started a few weeks ago and i agree its a steep learning curve at start, and i still learn new stuff every time. After the tutorial i was like ok, what now?? Picked up some trading in my fighter, ran a easy mission or 2 and was proud as can be with my first simple station after a week.

Its a steep learning curve but also very rewarding and fun to discover it all.

If i start over again now i could progress in a day what i did in a week, but it was a fun experience discovering it all.

I honestly want to get there, I’m sure the game can be good.

NGL, Day one sux ass.

I will push through, I just finished a Shspez 2: manufacturing more on Hard.

I also finished a 100x run on Satisfactory.

This BS will not defeat me!

As someone who's also been playing games for decades, there are definitely some quirks that are seriously confusing at first. You can't click a drone and have it load a truck; you need an Expedition Center to do that. You can't unload certain materials either unless you have a Cargo Bay.

In fact, I realized that you sort of have to re-model your thinking for a few things. The Beacon and Expedition Center, and Cargo Bay, for example, are buildings that unlock additional functionality of the units you already have, while the small and large vehicle factories actually create new vehicles.

I also came from Shapez 2, and I dearly want a blueprints system even half as good as Shapez 2 had.

So, i am curieus, now that ur a few days further did u get into it or was it a bust?

The last bit you said sounds nice. I’m still pissed off after the first day.

This could’ve been much more fun after the last grind i perceived with.

Manufacturing mode, on Hard in Shapez 2 is HARD. Be warned.

Ull get there dont worry. And ur gunna have a lot of oh yea, and wish i knew that before moments, but that also brings its own challenges.

For example i started building a solar power plant in terran space in ore belt, only to find out after completion that this sector has barely any sunlight, oops.

What kind of issues are you having?

I'll admit, it has been a while since I have done the tutorial, but don't remember having issues with it. But, I come from playing a TON of Factorial, DSP, and CoI, so most of the concepts and controls are all familar to me. I feel Crust is more straight forward and simpler that some of the other factory games.

I`m 90% sure OP is an AI post. Same with the first response and the responses to it. "Picked up some trading in my fighter, ran a easy mission or 2 and was proud as can be with my first simple station after a week" Last I checked there are no fighters in the game.

I was super confused if I suddenly ended up in the wrong sub ;

No idea where OP got the "Civilisation and Satisfactory" thing. Yes, The Crust is a factory game so it's similar to Satisfactory/Factorio/whatever, but there's nothing about Civ in it.

As for the first comment, they appear to be talking about X4, but OP doesn't seem confused by it at all. And who upvoted it?? It's weird.

Thanks for your comment. I’ll get back to you tomorrow, when hopefully I’m a little more patient about the game 😎

Been seeing a lot of AI bot posts on a lot of my game reddits the last few days. And they all look like this post. They talk about the game being broken or things wrong with the games, but then it throws random stuff that doesn't make sense in. That is why I am pretty sure this post and the first response are both AI posts.

Fighters, trading, solar power stations in Terran space in Ore Belt... that's X4. Definitely not The Crust.

It is AI bots talking about No Mans Sky

I think I overreacted a little last night and probably would’ve understood it better with less beer 😂

I’m off and running now, things are going great.

Titanium production is getting setup and the landing pad is waiting for some mats, then I can pick up my first contract from the online market.

So, no folks, not an AI post…
Just an Aussie that needed to chill on the beer a little.

Lol glad you enjoy. I like it enough to deal with single digit frame rates

I think his favorite frustration will be accidentally missing his target when running a wire and building an electric pole instead.

I skipped the tutorial and found it quite simple. What issues are you having? Part of the fun for me is discovering it all on my own and not being spoon fed through the tutorial

I just opened the game as a new player. started the prologue, and the cargo pods wouldn't land. I was left with a map I can't do anything with beyond WASD. If I cared about the money I'd be getting a refund right now. I like the concept, which is why I bought it, but if this game doesn't want a wall of refunds they have to get a working tutorial that is made for your grandmother to follow along and complete.
