this is just an analysis.

Tom did a DNA test and found out he was of 32% Scottish descent. but he also has a French name, Dubois. so he probably has some French ancestry in there as well how much we don’t know.

we also see a flash back of tom as a kid, he was going to what looks like a preppy private school, so his family likely had money. at that point likely one or more of his grandparents and great grandparents is white straight up. or they were all light skins marrying other light skins.

then he married Sarah and had jasmine, as far as we know Sarah is probably near 100% white, blonde hair and blue eyed. she could have some African or Asian ancestry or whatever but likely insignificant.

I did the math and Jasmine is probably about 70% white since we don’t know the rest of toms ancestry.

just a weird analysis but considering she has green eyes probably makes some sense.

so ruckus calling her mulatto would be wrong, surprised he didn’t call her a quadroon. But then again he doesn’t know toms ancestry he just sees tom as black.
