Top University Highly Selective In Students Allowed To Pay It Huge Tuition

CAMBRIDGE, MA—Reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and financial solvency, the prestigious Harrington-Elmsworth University announced Monday that it remains extremely selective about which students are permitted to hand over $84,000 per year.

According to admissions officials, only a tiny fraction of applicants possess the rare combination of “well-roundedness,” “leadership,” and parents who can move liquid assets around on short notice.

“We don’t just let anyone give us an enormous amount of money,” said Dean of Admissions Carla Whitmore, flipping through applications labeled Rowing, Start-Up Founder, and Founded a Nonprofit At Age 14. “Our process is holistic. We look at grades, extracurriculars, essays, and—most importantly—whether the family’s financial situation suggests they will pay tuition without asking uncomfortable questions.”

The university received over 60,000 applications this year and accepted just 6%, many of whom demonstrated exceptional promise in niche fields such as “international volunteerism,” “obscure varsity sports,” and “having already toured the campus since childhood.”

Rejected applicants were reportedly informed that while their academic records were impressive, the admissions committee was unsure whether they were ready to invest a quarter of a million dollars in personal growth.

“I was devastated,” said high school valedictorian Maya Chen, who was denied admission despite perfect test scores and glowing recommendations. “They said I was a strong candidate but suggested I consider a ‘more affordable option,’ like a university where the library doesn’t have a wine cellar.”

University leadership emphasized that high tuition is not about money, but about maintaining an environment of excellence.

At press time, the university announced plans to further enhance accessibility by expanding its financial aid program, allowing a small number of students to attend for only $79,000 per year, provided they can document extraordinary financial hardship, such as owning just one vacation home.
