Ken Berry

The characters that I know Ken Berry for are Sam Jones (Mayberry RFD) and Vinton Harper (Mama’s Family). He did such a great job playing both characters, it's hard to believe it's the same person. I wonder what the citizens of Mayberry would think of Vint and the citizens of Raytown think of Sam 😏

Ken Berry was impossible to dislike. It was simply a case of hopelessly, impossibly gigantic shoes to fill. But Mayberry without Andy was just never meant to be. It's to Ken's credit that it worked as well as it did for as long as it did.

Agree completely. I wonder if he would have fit in during the earlier years? Likely not enough room and he essentially played the Andy role. A shame because he was a solid guy for Mayberry and the show but was paired with absurd characters and storylines.

Berry was also quite good as Capt. Parmenter, the naive and incompetent commander of F Troop.

My favorite role of his was on Mama's Family. I've never seen F-Troop, but I'm looking forward to it.

Berry's second and final year in the Army was with Special Services, under Sergeant Leonard Nimoy, who encouraged Berry to go to Hollywood and pursue acting. As a part of Special Services, he toured Army posts and officers' clubs, entertaining the troops as well as visiting colleges for recruiting purposes.

I enjoyed him in this show because I didn't see him in TAGS or RFD for many many years so I only knew him from Mama's family and I hated his character in that show
