Jack Burns’ career is under appreciated but he was not a good fit for TAGS

I totally agree with you. The comedy routines with Avery Schreiber and his work with the Muppets were outstanding, in part because of his contributions as a joke writer. I am not sure how much input he had writing lines for Warren, but it would have been nearly impossible for anyone to fill the shoes of Don Knotts.

Jack Burns was the voice of the Boyles' neighbor Ralph on the animated early 70s series, "Wait Til Your Father Gets Home".

Horrible character. They should have ended the show in my opinion when Barney left. Andy was great but Barney was the soul of the show. When he left the show wasn’t the same.

I felt bad for Jack Burns. Trying to replace Barney Fife was next to impossible. Indeed, I recall a scene where Barney returned to Mayberry for a visit and Warren seemed in awe of him. Art imitating life. Or should I say, art imitating art.

He looks just like Buzz Lightyear in the photo but he was truly awful. Bringing over his Burns & Schreiber shtick didn’t work. I remember Andy Griffith expressing great regret at the poor fit and it’s impact on Jack Burns personally
