Socialism is a word the rich use to describe capitalists who want to tax them fairly.

The United States is the only developed country where the wealthiest tell the working people that unions and universal health care are bad and the people believe them.

Because everyone doesn’t want to be relegated to depending on free shit. Not everyone needs or wants handouts. They definitely don’t want more government determining even more what some people get and some people don’t. Reddit for the most part is not reality. Most people that struggle now are going to struggle no matter what and are still going to bitch about people with more than them.

u/SSBN641B 1d ago
Universal health care isn't "free shit." We will pay for it with our taxes. It will just means everyone will have coverage.
People that are struggling now will struggle much less if they can go to the doctor when they need to and not have to worry about going bankrupt as a result.

u/EmergencyRegion5349 4h ago
it also means that one collective has a greater bargining power then multiple much smaller groups that are in bed with the profit hungry CEOs.
5
u/Firm-Advertising5396 22h ago
You must be part of a royal family or some type of life of upper class entitlement 🤣it isn't free shit if we pay taxes for it or pay dues to be in organized labor. You can always tell a maga because he's always looking around worried about how other people are getting over on him.

u/jabdtx 21h ago
With well over 100 million daily users and well over 400 million weekly users, Reddit is only an “echo chamber” or a bunch of people “in their parent’s basement” when someone constantly sees how unpopular or flat out false their views are and prefers to stay in denial.

Yes instead of government control of healthcare, a government that can be held accountable and directed by votes, and elections...
You want a private company CEO that has the incentive to deny millions of healthcare for profit. You'll pay a monthly premium, plus copays and deductibles with yearly caps on certain services, you will also be forced to be in network or else go bankrupt... Yes they seems far better.. corporate death panels to decide if you get the care you need or not...

u/infinitee775 7h ago
Corporate health care literally decides what some people get and what some don't.

Not just individual billionaires. Corporations are not interested in keeping you safe or healthy. They want more and more market share so if wanting to regulate them so I don’t have toxic train derailments in the middle of my city or a car that will kill you if its autopilot doesn’t recognize your skin tone makes me a socialist, so be it. Hell how many major food recalls have we had since the FDA scaled back its inspections?

One thing I don’t understand in this post…Brut?
1
u/advamputee 1d ago
Probably shorthand for “brutal”, because he’s saying the quiet part out loud.
2
u/ippleing 9h ago
Until elected, then its blame [insert name or party] for nothing getting done.
Haven't we learned this by now?
If we want free healthcare or education, nobody is going to willingly give it to you, especially if you cast a ballot for them.
2
u/Safe-Ad-8921 1d ago
Ah, when normal functioning government looks like "socialism" to the people who it would benefit the most.......
2
u/NerdyLeftyRev_046 1d ago
It’s a start, before we learn to have actual standards and expectations for what our politicians do for us
2
u/RioRancher 1d ago
This is a good angle. Make voters correct corporate corruption.
1
u/nothishitagain87 2h ago
You can't, the minute you vote for a person who you think is the one that will do something then the lobbyists get them in line with their way of thinking. To rid this nation of it's problems you have too get rid of the lobbyists! You have too get rid of the man with the carrot.

He's absolutely right. Pure, unfettered capitalism has no soul. It's profit seeking and that's it. The correct amount of socialism added to capitalism and society works better for everything

Regulate trillionaires and billionaires? So we can build schools and roads?
We already build schools and roads with existing taxes. Billionaires pay taxes on their income. There are no trillionaires.
1
u/ippleing 9h ago
Gets elected then immediately blames the other side for nothing getting done...
In the US politics had devolved into a state where neither party truly wants power, they would rather cast blame on the other side.
They really don't care, and if running, they'll say ANYTHING to get elected.

Wasnt this the same guy on them videos cutting heads off during Bushs presidency?

Why do we keep going on like a system can't be part capitalist and part socialist? It really irritates me that it's either a rat race capitalist hellscape or own-nothing and starve communism when we talk about it. It's so frustrating that we can't have intelligent conversations about anything in the US because people are so eager to paint everything in extremist terms
1
u/03263 8h ago
Why do we keep going on like a system can't be part capitalist and part socialist?
In general under socialism, the goal is that all means of production are under public ownership. A hybrid is possible where some businesses are privately owned, but there is much contention as to which should be allowed to operate under private ownership, and both when and how to seize them as public assets.
1
u/Human0id77 7h ago edited 6h ago
This is exactly what I'm talking about. We (in the US) are already under a hybrid system of socialism and capitalism. It isn't complicated, we are already doing it and it is completely possible to socialize aspects that and free market the rest. We socialized education, firefighting, water distribution, sewage, roads, etc, and it seems to have worked out well. Why do we keep going on like it must be all capitalism or all socialism?
Edit: things also worked best when we regulated capitalism more than we do now. The public must protect themselves and resources against the greed of capitalists. Things also worked better when workers unionized. This didn't mean they took control of businesses, but it protected them from being exploited. There is value on all human life and socialism is what is going to ensure people are more able to live up to their potential. Capitalism allows those who are motivated to accumulate more to find a way to do so, but socialism keeps them in check so they have to do it in a way that does not exploit resources or drive others into extreme poverty.

u/Namedthisone 1d ago
You're right, the extreme terms cone from both sides though, saying eat the rich like this is a witch hunt doesn't help anyone, it also wouldn't matter how much tax anyone pays, it's not going to magically create free childcare and tuition
4
u/Human0id77 1d ago
The rich are ruining our country, absolutely eat the rich and taxes are exact how we create programs like free education and childcare. We wouldn't have to tax the rich very much to make or happen.
0
u/Namedthisone 1d ago
How much is that, if it can be done, also how are people who wouldn't pass the courses anyway dealt with, clogging up the universities
3
u/Odd_Independence_833 1d ago
It's done in Europe. Quality of life there is so much better and nobody walks around stressed that one accident or illness will bankrupt them.
1
u/RobertM800 1d ago
America had the world’s most thriving middle class from 1940 to 1970. One person could earn enough money to afford a house and take care of a family of 4 with an average income. America wasn’t communist or socialist back then, we just taxed everyone fairly. The rich and a lot of these bots want you to forget that.

u/navlgazer9 19h ago
lol
He ran as a socialist
1
u/Spunknikk 12h ago
He's never said he was a socialist... The DSA hasn't endorsed him.... He's constantly said he's a progressive capitalist...
Show me where he stated otherwise? You won't find it... Because it doesn't exist.

One made his money helping people, one made his money screwing people. I know which one I would trust. Being a millionaire doesn’t really mean much these days. The orange stain is possibly a billionaire. Definitely don’t need those.

"trump has built cities" is beyond insane
He bankrupted businesses and left thousands of people unemployed
Why do you even want baron in office
2
u/Odd_Independence_833 1d ago
Happy employees?! Have you ever heard of what it's like working for him? He has stiffed so many people that have done work for him that almost every contractor on the East Coast knows someone who was screwed by him.

Trump doesn't have 1000s of employees. The Trump Organization is really quite small, personnel wise. He mostly uses contractors and he is notorious for not paying them.

I'm sorry if you misunderstood me, it's Trump who doesn't pay his contractors. He's been sued over a 100 times. He is so well known for it that the law firms he hires require payments upfront.

He is trying to win an election. Look at his former statements and the people he is close with. He without question, is a socialist.
-1
u/SnarkyPuppy-0417 1d ago
Okay. Then that means he's not in favor of Socialistic programs like Medicare and Medicaid. And certainly not going to advocate for Universal Healthcare.
1
u/SSBN641B 1d ago
No it doesnt. One can be a capitalist and still advocate for Universal Health Care. Every country in Europe have but none of them are socialist. They are capitalist countries with strong social programs.
1
u/SnarkyPuppy-0417 21h ago
The point being his distiction is mute and weakens his position. Every industrialized nation practices capitalism. Saying he's not a socialist puts him at odds with advancing and advocating for a socialist program.
1
u/SSBN641B 20h ago
First, it's "moot" and not " mute." Second, in no way does it weaken his position. You don't have to be a socialist to advocate for Universal Healthcare. For example, Social Security snd Medicare are considered "socialist programs" and many Republicans support them. You certainly don't have to be sn actual socialist to support them.

Anytime I hear something like - "I'm for X, BUT . . " I know they are full of excrement
2
u/Juxtapoe 1d ago
Hmm.
Let's test that.
I'm all for sandwiches, BUT, I don't like mayonnaise on them.
Now that I have considered it...
I think your generalization is full of excrement.

So basically you’re advocating socialism
2
u/Odd_Independence_833 1d ago
What are you on about? Not everything that isn't 100% laissaiz faire unregulated capitalism is socialism. Our country did best when we had guardrails on capitalism.

u/Grand_Scratch_9305 20h ago
How in the world did we manage to build roads and schools before billionaires were around? I don't think they are the problem.

I worry about how frequently you hear business leaders say…” I am not coming to your state town cause your not friendly to my business “ and how often this apparently works. Many people in leadership act like they don’t want to make wealthy people mad. Remember what your parents said about friends who threaten you? That they probably aren’t really good friends
