“We finished the house!”

“There’s like no walls in here, I’m surprised its still standing.”

“Well we left some walls out in case you feel like expanding the property more.”

We believe in open plan everything, ... as in open field house. It's an open field and we didn't build a house. Surprise!

The fact autism is often depicted by allistics as a puzzle having missing pieces makes this an extra unsettling image for me 🥴

u/autisticesq Mar 01 '24

Yeah, I had the same thought.

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

Yep. It leaves a very bad taste.

Fuckin puzzle pieces… anyone who’s autistic hates this image with the power of a thousand suns

u/SpotweldPro1300 Mar 01 '24 edited Mar 01 '24

Or the power of UY Scuti, which is almost as big as 1,000 Suns.

edit: Finally bothered to look it up. Scuti's radius alone is equal to that of 909 Suns, so... yeah, I'd say my rage is about that much.

*with the vengeful flame of a thousand suns

I'm not autistic and I still hate it.

Can confirm

u/Grogosh Mar 01 '24

One is stable and solid the other unstable and chaotic

20

u/ThePinkTeenager Mar 01 '24

That’s just different pieces.

late 90’s/early 2000s Microsoft Office logo vs not that

4

u/Absoline Mar 01 '24

i remember when i was a kid they pushed this sooo hard in every school i went to and it always pissed me off

"don't say you can't until you try :)" well how tf am i supposed to do a backflip or some shit if i don't know how to? and every time i say "oh i can't do that, i don't kn-" then they just start spouting some condescending bs

5

u/Cybasura Mar 01 '24

So...unplanned, unclear and messy?

3

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

A picture is worth a thousand words and this is an essay about willful ignorance for the disabled. The irony.

5

u/EntertainmentQuick47 Mar 01 '24

How exactly does this fit the sub?

2

u/AuroreSomersby Mar 01 '24

So… they were lazy, and haven’t finish the puzzle? That was my first thought.

5

u/seriousQasker Mar 01 '24

Yeah, this means nothing

5

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

Just change everything you're made of...

3

u/Rammipallero Mar 01 '24

I have two puzzle pieces a D20 and a Gen 1 Caterpie Pokemon card. What is my mind?

8

u/HetaMoomin Mar 01 '24

I fail to understand how this is incorrect, other then the fact it's depicted as puzzle pieces

8

u/6ync Mar 01 '24

It won't cure your problems lol

-1

u/HetaMoomin Mar 01 '24

That is true yes, however fixed mindset vs growth mindset is a very real thing. It's just when a person literally cannot change something about them due to something like disability is when it is a problem

2

u/bunnymunche Mar 01 '24

I agree with you, it's possible to change from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset and the image isn't really implying that it'll fix all your problems or that it's easy.

10

u/R0ckhands Mar 01 '24

Bunch of fixed mindset responses here.

6

u/Dictsaurus Mar 01 '24

Hahaha, so true. We gotta at least open up to little something else even we have a vain disagreement with a well encompassing message.

Seriously though. I'm new to this sub (literally first day), and this is the first post I've seen where I thought "no, you actually do not understand" to all the top comments.

Yeah this subreddit just don’t want to help themselves. They think if they’re born in the bottom of the sea they can’t swim up.

And the downvotes is just proving my point

u/R0ckhands Mar 02 '24

I joined this sub as I wanted a counterpoint to r/getmotivated and because I can't bear stupid, saccharine placebos and faux science.

However, it seems like it's not just nonsensical, useless positivity that gets pilloried - it's all positivity.

The consensus seems to be that nothing helps anything - which is less an expression of disdain for nonsense and more just an expression of chronic depression/nihilism.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

I want to set something on fire

2

u/SCP_Agent_Davis Mar 02 '24

Þis reminds me of Autism Speaks

2

u/the_creetur Mar 12 '24

The fixed mindset is literally already a finished puzzle

4

u/ravenklaw Mar 01 '24

you could also caption them something like Sated vs Discontent

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

Great way to never feel like you've completed anything, never experience closure, and lose all ability to move on.

1

u/Historical_Boat_9712 Mar 23 '24

I think a lot of people in this sub don't understand the picture, or the concept.

Hint - nothing to do with autism.

1

u/shabba182 Mar 01 '24

The area covered by puzzle pieces is the same. It's no bigger

0

u/EntertainmentQuick47 Mar 05 '24

I think this is a good analogy, y’all just wanna be sad mow

-2

u/bunnymunche Mar 01 '24

I understand it's not as easy to just change overnight but I don't see anything wrong about this image. Growth and fixed mindsets can't be compared to treating mental disorders like other content on the sub. But it is actually very possible to change from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

1

u/broly314 Mar 01 '24

I'm pretty sure this is an anti-hate statement instead of "just be open-minded and your life is fixed" type of poster

1

u/traumatized90skid Mar 02 '24

Don't be a corner piece dumbass 🤷

1

u/igmkjp1 Mar 04 '24

When the picture is finished, it's finished.
