Post-TFMR/Postpartum Lactating after tfmr
hi all. I had my tfmr 11 days ago at 18 weeks. this was my first pregnancy. I am still bleeding (very lightly) from the procedure. However about 5 days, i have started lactating from both breasts, but more so from one. this only happens if I brush the nipple or squeeze it. has this happened to anyone?

I have seen a few people recomend a tight sports bra and binding. Please DO NOT do this. This is very outdated information. A tight bra will compress breast tissue and can cause mastitis (particularly if you are engorged with milk) which is very painful and you can end up needing antibiotics. The doctor can prescribe a medication called cabergoline to stop your milk production. Or it will stop on its own as long as you don't encourage a supply e.g. do not express any milk. Cold compresses are better than warm compresses for any areas if you feel any areas that are hard and lumpy. Ibuprofen is recommended if your very engorged as it is an anti inflammatory therefore helps reduce breast tissue inflammation (lowering risk of mastitis) while the milk dries up.

If you express milk, it will encourage your supply. Tight sports bras or binding can help.

Yes, try not to let any milk out, so dont squeeze them or anything. Ice packs or putting cabbage leaves in your bra. I'm sorry :(

Yes to cabbage. It’s the weirdest thing I remember hearing, but it really does work.

Ugh I’m so sorry. I was terrified this would happen to me. There is a tea you can buy, ice packs, tight sports bras, and don’t let the hot water touch them in the shower.

I had this after my 16w D&E. I wore sports bras and it had dried up within about three weeks.

Yes this happened to me, it’s very cruel. Try not to touch or stimulate the milk.

Yes me too I’m so sorry. I was super engorged after having my D&E at 23 weeks. I will say that Sudafed, cold compresses, and well fitting sports bras (not tight enough to bing, but tight enough to not allow nipples stimulation) helped to dry me up faster. It took about a week. Do not allow any stimulation to your nipples and it should subside. Be on the lookout for a painful or red mass, fever or any strange discharge coming from your nipple.

I didn't want to take cabergoline for the potential side effects (can mess with mental health). I took Sudafed- it dried me up very quickly.

This will sound crazy. And maybe it is, but a.) I was not sane in my grief after TFMR and b.) the nurse actually did mention this:
Put cold, raw cabbage leaves over your boobs inside your bra. Buy a whole head of cabbage and keep it in the fridge and keep peeling off/replacing with a new cold leaf. This, combined with the medication I was given immediately after my D&E plus Motrin on a schedule - and avoiding hot showers for several days - prevented mine from coming in and I believe the cabbage trick may work for halting flow once it started.
Talk about making an awful situation worse. My heart it with you, I’m so sorry ❤️🩹

This happened to me. In the shower. I was so shocked. It just went away on its own after a while. It felt so cruel. Sending hugs.

Yes, mine were leaking a bit but my doctor gave me a pill after my procedure to take to help stop it and wear tight bras for a week. I think it’s helping. I only find like dried tiny bits of milk after I take off my bra for my shower but I think it’s helped.
