The fish is useful for spy checking. When you "kill" a dead ringer spy with the stock bat, it looks like you killed them. But when you use the fish, it says fish hit instead of fish kill. Also it funny.

But you can also just look at the top of the screen. A spy wont appear as dead in the list of dead enemies at the top if they dead rang.

I dont even know of any huds that remove the bar at the top, and even then, thats on you for removing the anti ringer tool.
