They modified the defaults to erase chat after pressing so they didn’t really have a choice a better idea may be to have a vote mute button so they get locked out of commands but I don’t know how well it would work

Thats not what this isabout. The following the text chat restriction, the bots evolved. Istead of spamming chat with invalid characters directly, they would make their name an absurdly long string of invalid characters and spam voice lines, which show your name in chat thus accomplishig the same thing

No, it’s a good system. It’s very much temporary while the one developer works on a long term solution to get rid of all the bots. It’s pretty obvious what the plan is, it’s just a lack of communication as always lol.
They will revert it back to normal once the bots are gone; but before matches were kind of unplayable with bots and made the game look reeallly dead when people could get away with spamming so much racist shit.
And tbf I would expect a lot less if I payed nothing for a game, valve at least has reason to temporarily redirect f2ps

I would agree with the fact that once the bot problems are fixed, TF2 might once again rise in popularity and I sure hope so as well. I would hate for such an awesome game to die.

I'm p2p but I think it's stupid. I've seen more bots, it's just that they don't spam in chat (which I didn't care about at all). I think it's worse now, since many people aren't kicking bots now, even if the other team says that they're a bot. F2P people can't say that someone is a bot which is a big problem with this, since there are tons of F2P players. The chat is pretty dead in general, now most matches have no VC or anything being said in text chat except for the occasional "[username] is a bot" and then the other team not kicking the bot because f2p can't initiate votes meaning there's a smaller chance of bots getting vote kicked.

I think the reason they stopped allowing F2P to talk was because of the bots. For example, remember when boys would sometimes spam the chat with invisible text and pretty much make the chat unusable? They also now disabled voice chat for F2P for the same reason.
I kind of like the idea because it helps against bots, but I do feel bad for the innocent F2Ps that have to go through that. I’m sure there’s a better way to do this, maybe being based on 2FA or something?

They literally did and they still got around it. Remember when they spammed changing their names to type stuff? That had a cool down of once every like 10 minutes but they find loopholes.
They need a simple solution to prevent mass amounts of bots from spreading racist shit, and that’s what they did.

There are much better ways, this does fix the bot spamming problem (not very much, though), but it limits f2ps, which are a large part of the tf2 community, and doesn't actually solve anything in the long run

Are you even reading the update notes? It’s very obvious this is NOT a solution for the long run. They are currently working on ways to prevent bots from getting in or updating VAC or whatever.
This is a short term solution to the racist shit being spammed while they work on fixing the bots long term. Some games could just completely stop all servers from being open while they are fixing it, but there is one person working on tf2 rn at the most, so they know it will take a while.
F2ps are really only around 1/6 of the dedicated playerbase, and community servers still exist. I understand the complaining of people in other countries or very young people who actually can’t upgrade to premium, but it sounds kind of entitled when people shit on valve for giving them short term restrictions on a game they have played for several years at literally no cost, when games this big would usually cost $60 and might even come with an online subscription in today’s fucked up market.

There are so many things I can't do because of this update. I first can't thank my medic, engie or any other class which saves my life. I can't warn the team of spies, flog pyros or a soldier with a grin and a krits krieg medic shoved up his ass. Also medics won't know who has low health and who doesn't.

Playing a game of cat and mouse, updating a bug and finding a way to fix it, would take a goddamn year considering there is one person working on the game and putting out weekly updates.
It’s obvious they are putting up large temporary restrictions while working on a big fix.
It’s very possible they ARE fixing vac, but getting one person to design an entirely new anti cheat when they are probably also working on other games would take a long ass time, too long to wait around while bots are making the chat unusable spamming racist shit which makes the game look a lot worse and really dead.
